View Full Version : Oct, Nov, or Dec?
ourtrip 03-29-2009, 02:42 PM We've been 9 times over the past 9 years. We started out in August (way too hot and humid), moved to Easter week (way too crowded), and most recently have settled into February as our month of choice. This year's trip was absolutely perfect in just about every way.
Now we have discussed heading there for a short 3-4 day weekend trip(doing the least expensive we can). We are struggling with which month to go among Oct, Nov, and Dec. We have looked at doing the Halloween or Christmas Party when we go, but aren't stuck to having to go just for them. We would like to see something new so those came to mind as we could see the Halloween decorations or the Christmas ones.
So, anyone out there with any suggestions, perspectives, or ideas to help us decide? Any information about crowd levels, weather, and park hours would be much appreciated.
scoobydooby 03-29-2009, 02:49 PM Ok - I have only visited March, Easter and August, and you already know all about that so I am not a good first response! However, I dream about my perfect trip a lot. (The trip with no real life to get in the way). Based upon this dreaming, October is my perfect month. Great weather, food and wine festival and the Halloween Party for a different thing to do. So October is my 2 penath worth.
wishiwasthere 03-29-2009, 03:22 PM I would go in October because it isn't very crowded and there is Halloween and the Food and Wine Festival.
I LOVE the Food and Wine Festival!

I LOVE the Food and Wine Festival!
Additionally, the weather is GENERALLY very close to perfect in October.
But other than that, I could have written the post I quoted.
I was there in Oct and December 08, and will be going in Oct and Nov in 09 - Notice the commonality!
The only 'down side' to a quick trip in October is that the Food & Wine festival is generally more crowded on the weekends with locals. So this year I'm going to arrive later on Friday, then have Sat and Sun to do other parks, then Mon and most of Tuesday for the actual food booths.
I won't do a Halloween party this year - I'm waiting to hear reports back - but I've been disappointed in the shift over time from things for the whole family/adults, to things for kids only. To me, any more, the only highlights are the parades and the fireworks, which are pretty darn good highlights, but I'm kind of a 'been there/done that' so I decided to not do either of the after hours parties until they start reintroducing things like the storytellers AROUND the park.
danyoung 04-02-2009, 11:02 AM I like to trade off my fall WDW trips every other year. One year I'll go in October for the Food & Wine Festival in Epcot, and then the next year I'll go in early December for all of the great Christmas festivities in all the parks. Either time is a great time to visit!
adkinsfamily 04-02-2009, 11:23 AM For the past 5 years we have been in October and we love it!! The weather is great and crowds are low, other than around the Columbus Day holiday. We did that last year and it was a little busier. We have also been in December about 3 years ago and I personally found it to be too chilly in the evenings. Could have just been a fluke, it was like the first week of the month, but we were wearing hats and gloves at night. I personally don't enjoying being in the parks at night in the cold, so if it were me, I would definitely go in October. Food & Wine Festival is great!!!!!:)
mkraemer 04-04-2009, 08:04 PM We've been in October and in November, and all things considered, I liked October better.
We were there in mid-October, and the weather was great--not too hot, not too humid. We enjoyed going to Blizzard Beach on that trip, and we attended Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, which we liked very much.
We had unseasonably cold weather for our November trip, which made things a lot more challenging (especially for my 88-year-old dad). No way would we have considered going to a water park! Although we enjoyed seeing the Christmas decorations, we went before Thanksgiving, so we didn't get to see the Osborne Lights, which was very disappointing!
Neither of these trips was at a crowded time at the parks, so that didn't really factor into my preference.
mikala 05-05-2009, 09:06 PM I'm going with scooby and the votes for October. We have Ap's to Disneyland so we can get our holiday kicks from there...our perfect trip has been 5 days in Sept and 5 days in Oct, for F& W, and MNSCHP.
Andrew 05-05-2009, 10:35 PM I love it there from October through February and won't go any other time (unless there's some very good reason like a repositioning cruise or something). This year we're doing both October and November.
If the Halloween party is important to you then obviously October is the way to go, otherwise I would go in early December and enjoy the Christmas decorations. Be sure to experience the Yuletide Fantasy Tour (http://www.mouseplanet.com/more/mm041215ar.htm)!
Leslie 05-06-2009, 03:25 AM Were going the first full week of December this year. I had heard it is one of slowest weeks to visit. (someone correct me if Im wrong) And all the Christmas decorations will be up hopefully. As for the weather, Im not sure what to expect havent heard yet.
