Hello,

My husband and I are taking our 10 month old daughter to disneyland for the first time. Don't worry, I am not one of those who thinks she will remember the trip, but my whole extended family is making the trip. I have read books about baby-swaping on rides, but I would like to know what rides and attractions I can carry her on to. Ones I can think of are It's a small world and Enchanted Tiki Room, but what about Pirates or haunted house? They seem to be safe, but I don't know what the rules are. Any ideas? If anyone has a complete list, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Melissa, welcome to the Boards. I know she will be chiming in shortly, but Mousepad moderator adriennek has a section at Mouseplanet called Parenting in the Parks (http://www.mouseplanet.com/akrock/). If covers things like height requirements to ride.

You can carry your baby onto both Pirates and Haunted Mansion. Also, most of the Fantasyland rides (I think) except Matterhorn.

It's actually easier to list what rides small children can NOT go on rather than those they can. There are many rides babies can ride.

In Taking a 1-year-old to Disneyland (http://www.mouseplanet.com/akrock/akrock26.htm) I listed the rides with height restrictions. Since that time, the rides with a "3-year-old" minimum have been adjusted to have a 36" height requirement. (If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone here will tell you ;) )

All of Fantasyland except Matterhorn is available. All of NOS/Critter Country except Splash (that includes canoes, Tom Sawyers Island, etc.) All of Adventureland except Indiana Jones, All of Frontierland except Thunder Mountain (That includes Mark Twain Steamboat and Columbia.) Tomorrowland is most limiting, but you can ride AstroOrbitor and Monorail (well, and Innoventions if you or the baby needs a nap-- oops, did I say that?)

Of course, there's our favorite (well, the kids' favorite), the Disneyland Railroad.

You'll all have a great time at DL!

We will be taking our baby boy as soon as we can. I am hoping for February (he'll be 4 months then) for my hubby's B-day. Our planned December trip had to be cancelled...

It's not for him, its for US, so WE have the memories. :D

You can take him on anything without a height requirement, so there will be a lot of choices. If you have a baby carrier you might want to bring it for the rides to strap him into your body. I did that with my kids under a year old. He'll love the shows, take him to those and the parades too!

Kids are very different, and you know your baby best. However, for my kids, they enjoyed things much better if they didn't get too startled. Therefore, when we took our infant to MK at WDW, I tried to ramp him through a set of rides to get him accustomed to the different factors and also to see what his own limits were. He did very well. My recomendation is 1- It's a small world (dark, music, puppets- but no sudden noises or movement). 2- Winnie the Pooh (or it's equivalant in DL- more start and stop movement and some sudden stuff- but not scarry) 3-Peter Pan (smaller seat- above ground- some fighting) 4- Pirates of the Caribean (one drop [don't sit in the front row] more active content in a bigger area). After ramping through those four, my kid was happy on anything they'd let him on. I even went to the haunted mansion- (however I was singing to him through the screaming parts).

Bottom line is to get your kid use to the ride experience in steps. There is always the Merry go round, Railroad, People mover, maybe Dumbo. Also I found some small play areas were positioned around the faster rides in WDW (like in the tunnel by Frontier land. This was a perfect spot in the shade and designed for babies and todders.) I unfortuantly found it at the end of my trip. I don't know if there are more spots like this or if they are in DL (anyone else know?)

Have a great time.

whoa, how long has it been since your last Dl trip?! :D

My son's first trip to Dl was when he was 8 months. We took him on Small World, the Jungle Cruise, the Casey Jr. train, Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan, and the StorybookLand Canal Boats. We also took him on Alice in Wonderland and Pinocchio, but there were some loud noises in there that frightened him. he loved the parade, back then it was the Mulan one and he loved the fireworks. Seeing the look on your child's face is worth the whole trip!! hope you have a great time!!

When you do a child switch, my recommendations is to check with the greeter out front of the attraction. Each attractions is set up differently because of the layout of each particular ride. The greeter will be able to give you the correct information for their location.
