i'm going sometime in mid-2010. we just got back and we go every year until this year (we just can't afford it). and it is literally driving me nuts! how can i pass the time for a year and a half getting ready for disney, but not getting too depressed that it's not sooner?

I know how you feel. I get the Disney "itch" about a month after we get back. We start by watching the vacation planning videos and then move to our own home movies of us being down there. It helps for awhile. Then we start planning the next one by talking about where we would like to stay and most importantly where we are going to eat!

My family is feeling the itch BAD. We went in 06 and 07, and we HAD a trip planned for 08, but we bought a house and had to cancel. 09 is not looking very likely either.

We look at pictures a lot, and I spend a lot of time on these boards, which helps.

Of course, the biggest thing getting us by is the fact that we are so close to DL, and go there pretty often. Certainly helps the witdrawals.:D

We went in 03, 04, 06, 08 and hopefully 2010 but it depends on the kids school.
I like to frequent the boards, read all kinds of disney books. Our library has a bunch. I listen to www.live365.com too. You can search for disney music and there is a ton. YOu can play it through your computer speakers or if you have airport for Itunes you can play it through your regular system. I like it because there are not many commericals and no deejays! It helps fill the void.

I like to look back on our pictures too and reminisce about all our fun!!

My suggestion is to completely forget about anything Disney - just don't think about it. Anything you do like watching videos or reading guide books is just gonna make you want the trip NOW, and it's just not gonna happen. Pick a date, like maybe 6 months out, where you can start up again and build the anticipation. But anything you do now is simply going to hurt!

That comment is so funny and soooo true!

We are finally going on our trip this Friday. We have been planning since last winter. It's pretty much something I think about every day.

I know, I'm right there with you. But the more you think about it, the more you want to be there. So at least TRY to not think about it, futile though that may be . . .

I think these boards help a bunch.

Then there are the web sites I like to keep up on news and rumors:

And a plug for my site - with Disney World pictures: :D

I was just at WDW in Nov/Dec for a week and as soon as I got home, I wanted to go again. My DM and I are planning a trip in July (thank goodness). The other day at work, someone that I hadn't seen in a while asked how my trip was and I said "It was fantastic". Then I said that I was going back in July, she said "Why? It never changes..why go back so soon?" I almost passed out when she said that. I told her that it does change from year to year..she just rolled her eyes (wanted to punch her at that point). I guess "non-disney" people just don't understand our LOVE for it.

don't you just hate it when people can't just be happy for you? i mean, disney world is pure, innocent fun. and if you can't enjoy it, while i don't understand that, why can't you just smile and say "that's great!"? it seems that there are so many disney-haters out there, i wonder if their parents gave them enough hugs when they were kids!

I was talking with a friend today and I told her that we were planning an either September or October trip. She said, "When is enough enough? You're going AGAIN?" I responded, "I'm tired of explaining and defending myself. It's my thing. I don't camp; I don't buy expensive clothes; I don't drive an expensive car; My house isn't huge and grand. But yes, Disney is my thing and if I could go SEVERAL times a year, I most certainly will!"

She backed WAY off. I got a bit grumpy, but I'm SICK of defending myself!!

What kind of friend would jump all over you for your love of Disney? It's ok that you responded the way you did! Each person has their own loves, their own obsessions. OURS is just simply put "DISNEY"!

I don't mention our Disney trips to my friends, much, I just say things like "I can't wait to go on vaca" and most people, including my sister just say, ":Oh Disney again huh?" Then they leave it at that. My sister is the real funny one though she will say things like "don't tell J (her daughter) she is jealous that you guys go more than her!" And I crack up! They used to go EVERY year, before we started going, then they bought into a different timeshare (which the hubby kinda regrets) now they go other places.

Anyway, to get me through till the next trip: As others have said, I go to the library and get every book on Disney I can and read and plan and investigate so that when the time comes... I'M READY!

I see your point about not thinking about it though, I just can't handle that, sorry.
( we just booked our cruise for August... not telling the kids yet..)

I say good for you! I hate it when people say "didn't you JUST go to DL?" and I kindly reply, "why yes, but we're going again..." I do have a few friends at my kids school who are jealous that we go all the time, one of the mom's DH doesn't like to go, so they don't go all that much, and she's always envious of us when we go. One of my other good friend, she's just not in to theme parks in general, and at first she was one of those "are you going to DL AGAIN?" people, but now she just kind of shakes her head and says, "I should have known, have fun.." I just don't know what I'd do if I had to plan a trip w/ out Disney involved. Someday we plan on taking the kids to europe (when they're old enough to appreciate it) and you can bet DL paris will be involved in the itinerary...

I've found that the best defense to the "again with the Disney thing" question is to just agree with them. "Yup, I'm insane, but at least I'm harmless!"

I know, I have some friends I've gotten scared to tell, because the reaction is always "what again" " dont tell me your going back" "oh well I like variation when I go away" or something similar.

I go to the travel agents and get a brochure to look at the pictures of the new stuff, come on these boards regularly and check flight prices weekly incase there are any special offers!!!

I like the clock on here too but I cant get it to work???

Regarding Disney discussions....I've learned to find the "Disney" people and talk to them about that which we enjoy so much. Talking to the rest is just wasting time, "they don't get it". Hopefully, for some of them they will some day.

I live in Southern California and have an Annual Pass to Disneyland which I use a lot. When I took a 2-week vacation to WDW last November, I thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Hah! Now I know that I'll definitely be going back to WDW...but have the same problem as the original poster. How to wait until 2010?! Had such a terrific time - just gotta do it again!

We don't want them to "get it", it'll just make the parks MORE crowded...

We're in the process of planning our 1st family trip to WDW (DH has been about 3 times when he was a kid, I went once when I was 5, wow, that was over 30 years ago  and our DD's have never been) We're planning on going in August for DD8's B-day and if things work out, going back in December. I know this WONT be a once in a life time trip, there are so many places to stay and eat, and so much to do and see.... How can you ever see it all? We go to DL all the time, and while I can say we've seen and done just about everything, every once in a while we discover something new, and there are still a few places we haven't eaten.....
