I recently found out about mouseplanet, read most of what I could before joining the discussion groups. My query is what is the history of mouseplanet, I apologize if its somewhere on the site but I havent found it. It would make an interesting article. Also are ALL the older articles archived? how old is MP? What is the best site to get the history of rides at Disney, it would make an interesting column (already read designer times) and ride specs etc. I guess I'm too newbie to know this stuff.

The history of MousePlanet is really too large for me to get into right now. In a nutshell, it was started by a Al Lutz, Karl Buiter, and Brian Bennett. They approached a group of different Disney websites about pooling efforts and starting a mega-site that would encompass everyoned efforts - becoming a one-stop location for everything about Disney. It launched on July 17, 2000 with an interview with Art Linkletter, though the core content is much older than that (the DIG, DTP, TAG, Potties, etc). Staff has come and gone over that time, but the core of MousePlanet is still here.

With a few exceptions, most everything ever published on MousePlanet is still available on the site. All of the section intro pages have links to all of the older stories. Additionally, you can use the Updates page (www.mouseplanet.com/mp/updates.htm) which will give you a chronological look back at almost two years worth of publication.

What a cool idea - someone really ought to try and do this.

Actually, Brian didn't sign on until after it was started, iirc.

The group that started it were: Karl, Al, Tony and Adrienne, and to a lesser extent Jason Schultz, me, Jim Hill, the Krocks, Scott (this old park), Bob Baranick...I'm forgetting a ton of people and apologize.

We launched at the NFFC convention on July 17th and Destiny Law interviewed Art Linkletter for the site, drawing national attention. Jim and I hosted a MousePlanet hospitality suite at the Hyatt (then: Alicante), complete with martinis and lights-out-soundtrack-on viewings of Believe! There's Magic in the Stars.

It was a lot of fun. Many of us parted ways but I'll never forget how fun and exciting that time was.

Fab

Edit - oops, I forgot Kenny Cottrell! Sorry!

I don't remember the martinis, but I remember the cake- I have pictures of the cake.

The cake, the denim shirts, and the buttons.
