View Full Version : Hotel Prices?!
kikid 10-27-2008, 10:29 AM We are booked at AKL over the Christmas holidays. I booked several months in advance with the WTC.
Now I wish to breakdown the costs, ie; hotel room, tkt prices, etc. When I called last week to check prices I received a polite "no-can-do". Because it's a "package" the costs are factored as such. Any ideas on how I can break down the costs myself? Anyone else I can call?
Guess I'm used to booking DLR a' la carte.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Drince88 10-27-2008, 10:55 AM The big factors for a package are the room, tickets, and dining plan if you're doing that. If you're not doing a dining plan, it's just the room (including tax) and tickets. YOu can find ticket prices on the official website (make sure you include tax and compare apples to apples!) and you can also 'book' a room-only (if there's availability) for your dates/resort just find out what the cost is.
They will NOT break down the price for you by calling anyone.
GusMan 10-27-2008, 11:33 AM Just a side note to what Drince mentioned... Since sometimes room costs sometimes vary depending on specials and how close you are to your trip, looking online for a room-only reservation may provide differing results.
So, like what Drince was saying as well... take your whole cost of your reservation, with taxes, and then deduct the dining plan (plus tax) and ticket costs (plus tax) to give you the room cost (including tax.)
Since the dining plan and tickets are a fixed cost, it is easy to determine the room cost.
At the same time, in the past when I would call for reservations they used to break it down for me before I booked. However, your mileage may vary depending on the package you booked and any applicable specials.
kikid 10-27-2008, 11:51 AM Thanks Guys!
Good suggestions. I canceled our dining plan last week and was more curious as to what I was paying for our room and tkts. I'm sure 6 months ago the cost breakdown was mentioned while making the reservations. I assumed a hard copy would follow, not to be the case. Do most people opt for the 'package', or book separately?
AudieL 11-01-2008, 12:15 PM I think most people book a package, because of the dining plan. The dining plan is quite popular because it does allows most folks to save money and takes the guess work out of the cost of food. When we travel with our whole family, son, daughter and son-in-law, we ALWAYS include the dining plan because it is such a great savings!
I have noticed that since the implementation of the dining plan, it's harder to get ADR alot of the time, which is another indicator that most folks use the dining plan.

But how does it "save" money? This is where hubby and I are not seeing the value. It looks like too much food wasted on our family of four. My boys may eat that much but I would be wasting food everyday on a DDP. I really like the idea of having the trip completely paid for in advance but...
Drince88 11-04-2008, 06:14 AM The dining plan can save you money if you would be eating that much anyway. If it's a significant change in your eating habits, it won't.
I saved all the receipts from my last trip with my sister so I can do a full analysis for us. Because it was the Food & Wine festival, and we had a lot of meals at the booths, it may not be accurate, but it's not going to be that far off from a 'regular' trip for us.

We found it saved us money especially as our kids got older, when they were no longer satisfied with choosing solely from the children's menu or sharing a meal. We enjoy dinning in at least one table service venue each day, we like getting off of our feet and quite frankly we like having someone come to the table take our order, refill our much needed tea glasses and the chance to relax for a bit. But what we experienced without the DDP is that paying for 4 'adult' priced meals was sticker shock!!! The cost of the one days DDP could be equal to the cost of one meal at a table service establishment! This can be true when ordering from the children's menu as well! We also found that even though one of us didn't utilize the plan fully, ie: one person didn't use the daily snack voucher...someone else in the family would.
Our family is a 3 meal a day family, especially our kids, they were use to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Before the DDP, we would follow our normal pattern, because that's what we were use to...get up, eat breakfast, have a lunch and have a dinner--but I think with the DDP, our kids knew that is what we had available and the benefit is we discovered it was just enough! So, when at WDW it seems to be quite sufficient to use a counter service at mid to late morning, table service at mid to late afternoon and then a late night snack! Again, saving us quite a bit of money.
Hope that helps!
houseofmouse 11-04-2008, 08:04 AM We looked into the plan for our last trip this past March. Although it would be a good deal for some. It was not for us. My DD eats like a bird and most times I get a kids meal. I usually don't snack either as when I am on vacation my snack button turns off!! We just carried cash or travelers checks with us. We did a character meal and one sit down restraunt in AK but the plan just was not for us. If you could individually customize it maybe that would be good too. :)
