View Full Version : Is Iger just Eisner Jr.?
Ghoulish Delight 11-22-2002, 12:01 PM According to a Forbes magazie article (as reported by MSNBC (http://famulus.msnbc.com/famuluscom/reuters11-22-110720.asp?sym=DIS) ), Eisner is suggesting that current Disney President Bob Iger be his successor, should Eisner leave in the near future. What's the scoop on this guy? It sounds to me like he's Eisner's right hand man and that the company would be getting nothing new by going with him. I'd much rather see them get some fresh blood, some new ideas than someone that "...Eisner was grooming..." I mean, the entire reason that he's having to consider naming a successor to begin with is that his methodologies aint working, so why would a new name with old methodologies somehow be better?
HB Tigger Fan 11-22-2002, 12:24 PM Someone totally new, not currently in the Disney Co may be the best thing right now. I say this because I don't think there are currently any "suits" who really have "good ideas" and are willing to spend the money now to see the profit later.
I thought I heard something about the head guy of Pixar comming in. Has anyone else heard that?
Alex S. 11-22-2002, 01:09 PM Who are you thinking of as head guy at Pixar? Steve Jobs or John Lasseter?
If Lasseter, then I think that would be a very poor choice. As much as he is an animation visionary, running Disney requires something on a much grander scale.
If Jobs, then I still think it a poor choice, but am willing to be convinced that I am wrong. He is a great motivator, but I also think he is happy to create niche products (he has been very successful at revitalizing Apple as a manufacturer of niche products but was unsuccessful at propelling Apple into the major player in its market; and has done similarly in most of his other ventures). Unfortunately, Disney is no longer a company that can afford to be a niche player, and if it tries it is going to find itself broken up and sold in parts.
ErikBsandiego 11-22-2002, 04:38 PM Steve Jobs is a really interesting idea. I am not sure given the economics of the PC marketplace apple could be anything OTHER than a niche player......In the continium of CEO's I would rather have one closer to Jobs (creative, visionary, risk taker) than Michael Dell (great operations guy, understands finance and supply chain management)

Walt Disney Co. does not plan to designate a potential successor to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Eisner anytime soon, despite reported pressure to do so, Eisner said Wednesday.
"When you announce a successor, you become a lame duck," Eisner told a gathering of media executives, investment advisers and reporters at a breakfast discussion in Manhattan sponsored by the Newhouse School of Public Communications. "We're just not going to say Michael Eisner as of tomorrow is a lame duck."
Does that mean that Michael Eisner just announced that he is a lame duck:confused:
PyroT 11-26-2002, 06:32 PM I believe that Disney needs to do like they did when they hired Eisner, they went outside of the company and brought in someone who shook up the company. To me, this is what they need to do again. Eisner has made some bad business decisions here lately (go.com for example), and I realize that you must expand if you want a company to succeed, but at what cost to the original do you change. I don't know who I would name as a successor to Eisner, but I do think that the company needs a shake up.
ErikBsandiego 11-26-2002, 10:14 PM IF (big IF) Mission:Space comes off it could be a ground breaking ride. My main question is how they are possible going to have the "throughput" on this ride to work.

It's going to be absolutely phenominal. --and, new rides of this magnitude bring a lot of new guests. :)
