We purchased SSP as our home resort. We are going in April and we decided to stay at OKW. Has anyone been to these 2 resorts and if so what is your opinion? Comparisons?

Welcome to MP!

We are going to go to SSR for the first time in a couple of weeks ourselves.
When we bought into SSR, one of the things that drew us there was the idea that we would be right next to DTD. That and the fact that it is a rather large resort which would help in getting the rooms we want when we are eligible to make our reservations for our next trip. The rooms looked very cozy and to be honest, it just felt like "home."

If you would like to see some past comments about SSR and OKW, you might want to try doing a quick search (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/search.php).

Additionally, there is some good info at these two links:
SSR (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BLT000)
OKW (http://www.mouseplanet.com/guide.php?pg=BLO000)
As well as our Reviews (http://www.mouseplanet.com/cgi/reviews/do/find.cgi?product-category=Walt%20Disney%20World%20Resort%20%2F%20Ho tels%20%2F%20On-property%20hotels)section. You might be able to get some additional insight from other people's experiences.

When do you think you might want to go in April? That may also be a determining factor if you are going on points. (ie: availability.)

Hope that helps.

I've stayed at OKW once. I rented points to stay at a studio, before we bought into the DVC, ourselves. My first impression was that it's very nice, but the DVC resort properties, have a little bit of a different vibe than a hotel. It's more spread out, and you may not be very close to the common amenities, such as the main pool and the restaurants. There will, probably, be a quiet pool near your room, if you want to take a dip, but don't want to schlep to the main pool. I found the bus service to be adequate. We've stayed at SS (our home resort), twice. Once in a one-bedroom unit, and once in a two-bedroom. Both times we had great stays. The extra room is wonderful, and you also get the jacuzzi tub, full kitchen, and washer/dryer. It is also more spread out, but, once you get the hang of where you are, it's not hard to get around. Depending on which area you are in, Downtown Disney can be a pretty easy walk, or you can take a bus. What we have done a few times, is to stay at one of the hotel-based DVC villas, when we are just going to be a few days, and do a studio. We've stayed at the Beach Club twice, for a couple of days at a time (mostly on weekends, when we run short of points for the larger units), so we get the advantage of the location, and the incredible pool. It's a worthwhile use of points, because I would not have paid the cash to stay there. We also stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, in a studio, for three nights, which was also wonderful.

We have stayed at both many times and I must say OKW is our favorite. As it is the original DVC property the accommodations are much larger and we like have 2 beds, instead of a sofa bed! We like the size of the resort and the homey feeling of the resort. We will be there in November!

With that being said, SSR is a close second. It is so fresh and new and the spa is WONDERFUL! It is very quiet and has such beautiful views with the golf course and water ways! We Visited SSR last in June.

like to stay at the grandstand--very quiet and close to two different bus stops and close to the dining, also.

I think OKW is better for families who are going to use both beds, as the rooms have two real beds instead of a bed and a sofa bed. Beyond that, we prefer SSR (our home resort). We've stayed in studios in both resorts, and thought the room at OKW was oddly laid out (we had an end room), and the furnishings very dated.

We have stayed in a 1BR at SSR and a 2BR at OKW.

SSR is a nicer resort -- it's newer and most villas are within walking distance of DTD.

For larger groups -- 3 adults or more -- we prefer OKW. The living, dining, and kitchen area in the 1 and 2 BR villas is much larger and easily accomidates groups of 5 or more.

The rooms at Old Key West are very large. It was the first property for Disney Vacation Club. You will like it very much. Welcome Home!
