We are heading to WDW on the 6th of December, staying at Port Orleans. I really want to visit some of the other resorts and see all the lovely Christmas decorations and am wondering if the best way to do that would be to rent a car.
Has anyone ever done this using just WDW transportation?
Would love some suggestions.

While seeing the other resorts is a great idea, I dont think it is worth the expense of renting a car.

It can be done with WDW transportation. Just plan out what you want to do and make little side trips. When at Epcot or DHS, take time to see YC/BC and BW... they have some great displays.

Take the mono from MK to do the tour of the three monorail resorts. Take a boat to WL to take a look at their grand tree as well.

Have dinner at Boma and then check out the decorations at AKL too.

Most of the deluxe resorts go all-out.

Agreed. I would just take resort bus transportation. WORST-case scenerio if you end up at a resort in the evening and don't want to transfer back to a park or DTD and then to your resort is.....taxi. No worries. Don't spend the money on a car just for resort hopping.

HOWEVER....resort hopping is one of my FAVORITE parts of my trip!!!

I wouldn't rent a car - I've done the approach GusMan suggested before, and will likely do it this December as well at some point!

I totally agree. You don't need a car to get anywhere on Disney property. However my dad can't stand closed in spaces so we usually rent a car but can't see us using it much this year because we are staying at the Boardwalk Inn. We are arriving on Dec 6th as well so see ya there!!!:D

PS: Yes go see the resorts, they are done up so nice and themed towards the resort itself. Don't forget to check out the Wilderness Lodge. It is amazing.

We've worked several resorts into our itinarary. We'll get to see the Contemporary the morning we go to Chef Mickey's (and World Showcase the rest of the day since it opens at 11am). We'll do AKL after our day at AK when we head over for our Boma dinner. Lastly, our final day at Magic Kingdom will be mixed with a voyage out to the Grand Floridian to see all the fun there. If we have time that day, we might hop to another near by resort to see what they are up to as well. Should be fun! :) We plan to use resort and our regular hotel transport for all our on-property travel.
