We'll be staying at the Candy Cane Inn in Anaheim. I know that there are 2 boats that go to Catalina, what would be the closest place to catch a boat? I know that one leaves from Newport Beach, I'm not sure of the other.

When I was in college we went to Catalina twice a year. We always left out of Long Beach. The parking usually ran @ $20 per weekend or $7/day. This is going back quite a few years so I am sure things have gone up. We usually took the Catalina Express. The ride took @ 2 hours. If anyone in your group is prone to seasickness you may want to reconsider.

I Live in LB..and I cant remember how much we paid for parking last time!..I think it was about $8 a day. The new Catalina Express that leaves from the Queen Mary takes just a little over an hour now..MUCH better and smoother than the older boats.
ALSO..if you have the $$..you can take a helicopter. Its $65 each way..takes 15 minutes and is REALLY fun! We took the chopper there and the boat back last time, and it was worth it!
hope that helps!

San Pedro is the furthest from Anaheim, but it's the shortest trip to Catalina so if you get seasick or want to limit your travel time to/from the island, you might consider driving to San Pedro and taking that route.

Thanks for all the information. Has anyone been on the boat that leaves from Newport? I'm thinking it might be worth the extra time to drive to Long Beach.
