View Full Version : Can an 8 month old ride any rides at the Magic Kingdom?
kjsmom 11-14-2002, 04:28 PM We're headed to Orlando the first week in December with our 2 3/4 yr old and our 8 month old girls. Am I going to be sitting with the baby the whole day, or can she actually get on rides with us? Thanks for any info (I didn't see this listed anywhere in the unofficial guide to Disney book I've been reading)!
pixiedust 11-14-2002, 04:59 PM On several rides you could use the "baby swap" feature, just ask the CM at the ride. One of you could ride with the 2 year old, the swap off without waiting. Some CM's might let the 2 year old ride again with the other parent.
There are some rides, very tame ones, that may allow you to take the babies (twins?), but I think it's up to the CM's at each ride. Maybe HTHBellcaptain knows, but the babies can't get on ToT!
kjsmom 11-14-2002, 06:07 PM I guess I worded that wrong  . I have two daughters, one is 2 3/4 and the other is 8 months :D . No twins here! I was hoping that the baby could get on a few rides. I know we can swap the kids and take turns, but that won't be fun if we have to do that all day. I have the feeling that Daddy is going to be having more fun than me!
cyberRoo 11-14-2002, 06:16 PM I know that at Disneyland, I've seen people on rides with infants, specifically Pirates and a Fantasyland ride. It may be that anything without a height restriction you could carry the baby on... I'm not positive, and you'll certainly need to make your own judgements about what you're comfortable with, but you may be able to ride, essentially, all the dark rides with baby.
DisneyDec 11-15-2002, 06:21 AM I'd recommend looking at Brian Bennett's WDW travel Guide on height requirements for some of the rides. The URL is http://www.mouseplanet.com/dtp/wdwguide/7_Children/older_kids/restrictions.htm.
From what I saw, only the roughest rides require a "baby swap" or height requirement. I did not see one for POTC or Haunted Mansion. My guess is that you'll be able to take the baby on about 70% of the rides.
Have fun. We're taking our daughter (who will be two-years-and-two-weeks old) to WDW the second week in December. I have a feeling it'll be a blast.
Kuzcotopia 11-16-2002, 02:29 PM Hey, there's always the train, it's a small world, Pirates, Mansion, HOP, Tiki Room, Jungle Cruise, most of the Fantasyland dark rides...
There's plenty to do without swapping the baby much.
WildGrits 11-18-2002, 04:46 AM Don't forget the Tomorrowland Transit Authority or the Wed Way as I remeber it being called. Along with the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin.
If I remember right, there is no height restrictions in Fantasyland but I don't know if I would be brave enough to take a youngun that small on the tea cups. Of course thats because I can't do them myself;)
mckat 11-18-2002, 08:38 AM I've been scanning the books also for rides for young ones. I have an 18mt this trip. Years ago I went to Disneyland with my daughter when she was three. Something to consider is that the 2 1/2 year old who may have more imagination may have more trouble on dark rides than the baby. I am planning on starting on its a small world (although that annoying song will be stuck in my head) to test the waters. It is a boat, and moves, and is dark, but no sudden things and is fun. That should give my youngest a feel for how it goes. A baby as young as 8 mths will fit comfortably on your lab on most of the rides. However, you need to know if your child is likely to get upset if startled or bumped. My baby loves fireworks and is ok with anything in my arms. But my daughter was a different story and freaked out on Pirates. Even with her, we found lots to do! I think we will remember these calm days fondly when we go back to WDW with our teenagers for the long lines and screaming rides.
