Walt Disney Pictures Press Release:

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Nov. 12 -- Hollywood's legendary movie palace, the El Capitan Theatre, is offering moviegoers a special 3-1/2 hour entertainment experience this holiday season with the November 27th debut of Walt Disney Pictures' latest animated adventure, "Treasure Planet," it was announced today, 11/12, by Lylle Breier, senior vice president, worldwide special events for Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. In addition to seeing the film with state-of-the-art digital projection and sound, guests will extend their moviegoing experience by visiting Disney's "Port of Discovery," an all-new tented attraction next to the theatre offering entertainment, displays and interactive games themed to the movie. This special entertainment package is being offered at the El Capitan from November 27th through January 5th with daily showtimes at 9:30 am, 11:50 am, 2:10 pm, 4:35 pm, 7:00 pm and 9:20 pm. Tickets are available at the box office, by phone (1-800-DISNEY6), or on-line at www.elcapitantickets.com . Group rates are available for parties of 20 or more.

Commenting on the announcement, Breier said, "Moviegoers are going to love seeing 'Treasure Planet' at the El Capitan and then immersing themselves into a real live 'Port of Discovery' themed to the film. The movie comes to life in this very special attraction and allows guests to add to their moviegoing experience and have hours of additional entertainment. We are very excited about this imaginative and fun-filled engagement and feel that it offers audiences of all ages and especially families a fun and unique way to celebrate the holidays."

Disney's "Port of Discovery" attraction, located in a giant 30,000 square-foot tent behind the theatre, presents six distinct areas for fun. Guests will enter the attraction through "Town Hall," where they'll have an opportunity to meet characters from the film and take part in cool science experiments dealing with weightlessness, inertia, viscosity and black holes. At "Space Academy," with it's glittering space galleon backdrop, visitors can climb a moving wall, "walk the plank," use their own weight to lift themselves 20 feet in the air, and learn to tie sailor's knots. The "Virtual Art Gallery" uses high-tech display technologies and simulations to spotlight the artistry and advancements of "Treasure Planet" and lets visitors create and email their own masterpieces. Guests can take part in a "Galactic Treasure Hunt," as they search for treasure, explore another world and discover laser-activating artifacts in a futuristic maze of cavernous trails. The "Map Treasure Sphere" gives participants a chance to test their skill and dexterity with a 3D interactive game experience that uses laser technology and pits Treasure Seekers vs. Treasure Reapers. "B.E.N.'s Backyard" offers an intergalactic playground for younger guests that includes a pirate ship, a geodesic dome climbing gym, and an extra bouncy floor that simulates space conditions. The Port's menu includes Krispy Kreme "powdered spheroids" and hot apple cider grog.

Walt Disney Pictures' "Treasure Planet" is the latest animated feature from John Musker and Ron Clements, the filmmaking team responsible for "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," "Hercules," among others. Based on one of the greatest adventure stories ever told -- Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island -- this exciting new animated adventure takes moviegoers on a daring and imaginative journey across a fantasy universe that combines expert hand-drawn animation, incredible 3D "virtual sets," along with superb acting and storytelling. At the center of the story is fifteen-year-old Jim Hawkins, who joins the crew of an intergalactic expedition as cabin boy aboard a space galleon. Befriended by the ship's cook, a charismatic cyborg (part man, part machine) named John Silver, Jim blossoms under his guidance, and shows the makings of a fine "spacer" as he and the alien crew battle supernovas, black holes and ferocious space storms. But even greater dangers lie ahead when Jim discovers that his trusted friend Silver is actually a scheming pirate with mutiny in mind. Confronted with a betrayal that cuts deep to his soul, Jim is transformed from boy to man as he finds the strength to face down the mutineers and discovers a "treasure" greater than he had ever imagined.
