I could not find what I was looking for so I thought I would post....

How bad are the crowds normally over Labor Day? Did anyone go this past Labor Day?

We are deciding between checkling in on Saturday or Sunday, September 5 or 6 or waiting until the following Friday, September 11

I would think the crowds would be larger over Labor Day than usual. If you could wait until a week or two later, I'm sure you would have less crowds as schools, colleges, universities would all be back in session at that point.

I would say that common wisdom suggests that holidays are busier than regualr times.

You will have hurricane season to consider the longer you wait...

I honestly don't know how much labor day would impact crowds. Southern schools have been in session at least 2 weeks (some a month). Any school in any other part of the country that hasn't started already generally start the week of Labor Day, so parents are sticking closer to home to get the kids mentally ready for school to start.

There could be a bump from those on day trips, but I doubt if that'd be much, especially in early September when it's still summer and associated weather.

You might want to check out the Trip Reports forum, I know there's a recent report from a very frequent Labor Day visitor in there (Labor Day in the title, I don't want to 'remember' their last name because I'll spell it wrong!) I haven't read her report yet, but I'd be surprised if she didn't say something about crowds.

And I don't understand the hurricane comment, ourtrip. The statistical peak of hurricane season is Sept 10 - generally August and September are higher probability than otherwise, with some Oct thrown in there. But I don't think there's even much of a statistical difference with Labor Day vs later in the month of September.
