1. A VERY TASTY HONOR
When we launched our Seafood Watch program in 1999, we hoped to make
a difference for the ocean. We knew that consumers could have an
impact on the marketplace if they chose fish that were caught or
farmed in ways that preserve healthy ecosystems.
Thanks to you and other Seafood Watch supporters, we've succeeded
beyond our wildest dreams. Major buyers, from Wal-Mart to Compass
Group and ARAMARK, are shifting to sustainable seafood. We've
distributed more than 24 million consumer pocket guides, created a
Seafood Watch Mobile service, and won the allegiance of noted chefs
across North America.
Now Bon Appétit Magazine has honored the Aquarium and Seafood Watch
as its "Tastemaker of the Year" for what we've done to raise public
awareness about sustainable seafood. Executive Director Julie Packard
was in New York City on Monday to accept the honor at the 11th annual
Bon Appétit Awards.
What began as a commitment to change our own practices has become a
big part of a growing international movement. Victories for healthy
oceans are being won at the dinner table. Thanks for helping make
this possible.

2. OTTER DAYS: SEPTEMBER 20-21
There's a special reason to join us for Otter Days this year: to meet
Ziwa, the Aquarium's newest African spotted-necked otter pup. She was
born June 7 and debuted on exhibit this month. Learn more about Ziwa
and all her otter cousins through special programs with otter experts.

3. COASTAL CLEANUP
International Coastal Cleanup Day is Saturday, September 20th. Can you
help? Last year, 378,000 volunteers from 76 countries and 45 states
removed six million pounds of trash from oceans and waterways and
recorded every piece collected.

things. Travel + Leisure Magazine this month named the Aquarium to its
list of "10 Places to See Before You’re 10", along with destinations
like the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.
