I was reading about the new attic scene (with the new bride!), and the updated graveyard scene. How scary are they now? How realistic is the bride?

i think the update was very nice, but nothing stood out as more scary or realistic than the rest of the ride. just a few new touches and added pieces here and there.

Don't cha just love the "footsteps" part...I won't elaborate...but what a NEAT feature! Sometimes the most simple additions add so much! :fez:

I like the new version better because they took out the humongous spiders. That part scared me! Also the beating heart is much softer, which I prefer. Otherwise, I don't think it is more or less scary than before.

It's ok. Nothing like a real haunted house ride, on which I would NOT go. I went on that VanHelsing thing at Univeral (Hollywood) and I thought I would DIE. THis is nothing like that.

I'm not sure if it was VanHelsing - I think it was "Mummy" themed, but you could have been buried right next to me! The queue made it look like something interesting - and by the time we figured out what it was, it was too late to take a 'normal' chicken exit (and we thought it would end sooner than it did!)

I agree, the Haunted Mansion additions don't make it any scarier then it was before - and I totally agree about the 'footstep part'!

The HM is one of the rides I specifically remember from my very first trip to WDW when I was maybe 9 or 10, so I've always been a big fan. I've never thought it was "scary" just maybe "spooky" and a whole lot of fun.

All that having been said, I really like the things they did during the refurb. They kept the feeling & atmosphere of the original/classic ride; just freshened it up a bit, and fixed a few things that needed fixing. It has about the same amount of "spookiness" as before; still a lot of fun. :D

I'm glad they took out the spiders cuz that part was the cheesiest, cheapest part of the whole attraction. It looked like they had a leftover scene so they threw in a couple of big spiders and some black lights. Much better now!

That just reminded me: How many of you when you saw the dog, wanted to feed him because he looked so sad and hungry?

I did when I first saw him in 1980! Now, my DD's say it, "Awwww, Mom! Look at that poor dog...he looks so hungry and sad." LOL!!!! :p

It was a while ago--in California. It was VanHelsing b/c it was all vampire-themed. I'll have to look for a pic. It might be Mummy now. Who remembers VanHelsing anyway. No chicken exit I could see. They jump out at you and say over and over, "You can't hold your children. They must walk." Yeah, b/c they're jumping out at you and you'll drop the kids. Of course, the kids were screaming and yelling and crying. I was SO glad it was just Shawn and me. I would have won the worst mom of the year award if the boys were with me.

Back on-topic: I think the scariest part of HM (which isn't that bad) is the beginning in the stetch room when the lights go out. That part hasn't changed. As long as you can handle that, you're gold.

I think it was probably differently themed, but it was probably the same thing, just at different times (based on the 'most recent' movie that would work) - but it was in California.

Haunted Mansion is NOTHING like that was!

Honestly....I don't get the upside down staircase. Am I missing something?

To me, it really reminds me of the Escher drawing where if you follow the staircases around, they make no sense in the constraints of gravity on earth. Like this one (http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Relativity-Posters_i3685218_.htm)
