Seeing as my most favorite boat in the world is currently undergoing some refurb, does anyone know where she usually dry docks? And, are there any photos? :) I'm curious to see what she looks like under the knife.

There appear to be a bunch up on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/drydock/). It's in Norfolk, Viriginia.

We will try to upload some photos of the changes from the Dry Dock by this weekend. We sail on the Magic tomorrow and will be taking plenty of shots then.

We're back, and the ship is... nearly cleaned up. Give it another week or so and they'll be done with the repairs. Everyone we spoke with said this dry dock was a zoo, and there was a ton of work still being done when we got on board Wednesday. The worst part was that the satellite wasn't working, so no internet access until we got back on land today. I'll have photos and such later this week.

Visible changes:

* New toddler splash zone next to the pool slide.
* New "Captains Quarters" in the Oceaneer Club.
* Cove Bar computers replaced with additional seating.
* New flat-screen digital TVs in rooms.
* New safes in rooms.
* New wood-look panelling in Deck 5 Aft hallways; it's a test for possible future use.
* New carpet throughout the ship.
* Deck 3 duty free store completely remodeled.
* Sessions remodeled.
* Video screens on more aerobics machines in the Vista Spa.
* New lighting in Palo.

Invisible changes:

* Tons of steelwork replaced on Deck 9.
* Over 50 miles of new cable pulled for digital televisions.
* Massive upgrade to entertainment infrastructure.
* New hull coating.

There were definitely some issues with getting the ship ready for passengers. Some staterooms were not ready on time, and we heard scattered reports of flooded verandahs, flooded rooms, missing furniture, wierd smells, non-funtioning TVs, yadda yadda. We were missing our drapes liners, and our new room safe wasn't actually connected to anything - we could pick it up and carry it around. Little things - drinking glasses and stationery - were missing from our room. They were still laying / replacing carpet in some public areas yesterday, and I heard that there was an entire block of rooms out of use for repairs.

WE were fine with all of the above - we knew exactly what we were getting into by booking the first post-dry dock cruise - but other people were much less understanding. Just consider this fair warning when you book your next cruise - the two cruises on either side of a dry dock are going to have more than the usual share of maintenance issues.
