Just got back from out trip, and as promissed I will write some quick reviews, and impressions. here is our take on the royal pacific hotel.

it was great!!!
the setting is that of a hotel in the south pacific, the time is set in the 1930's. everywhere you look is references to the royal pacific ships or airline. you enter on the third floor. the loby is very light. looking up you see the soaring palm thatched roof. in the center is an outdoor patio. the patio is beautifully decorated with a pool of water with fountains shaped like elephants playing in the water.

the hotel is made up of three towers each off the main loby. we stayed in the windward tower, right on the third floor. despite that is was a very long walk back to the loby to catch the elevator down, then an equally long walk to catch the boat to the parks.

the rooms are the same size as is found in the other hotels here, and they are beautifully decorated. but I found the bathroom a bit cramped. we paid for a "water/pool view" and I was somewhat disapointed in our view. I assumed that we would actually see the pool. in stead what we saw was a small portion of the canel the boats travel on, but only if we lood straight down. the rest of our view was that of the back of IOA. and a rather busy road that runs in between. not bad, but not worth the extra money either.

the pool area was nice, but lacked a slide. it did have a great kiddy area, but a water slide like over at the hard rock would have been nice. on a side note to this while we were enjoying the Jacuzzi two couples decided to "enjoy" it to in a way to adult way. at first I thought they were just pretending, then I realized that it was really for real. this was about 7 pm in the evening, with LOTS of kids around. including in the tub with us. with what became way to much exposure for a family enviroment I decided to do something abut it. managment was quick to clear out that area, then proceeded to clean the jacuzzi.

water taxi to and from the parks was a nice, and never did we have to wait to long for a boat. we did once walk to the parks, and because of the winding waterway it was quite a long walk, I wouldn't recommend it.

over all I really liked the hotel, and can't wait to go back.

Have you stayed in either of the other 2 onsite resorts? I wonder how it compares, as far as rooms and meal options. (I wasn't very happy with the meal options at Portofino, but that bathroom was the best one we have ever seen in any resort.)

we have stayed at the hard rock twice before. let me add then that the food options are only slightly better then there. we actually ate all our meals except for one breakfast either in the parks or off property. there is three restaurants at the royal pacific, and our impression was that they were expensive places.

they are as listed

Island dinning room. a family friendly restaurant with pacific dinning... feasts if Bali, Hawaiian luau, and an Australian barbie featured.

we ate the breakfast buffet. 14.95 a person. very good food with a omellet chef making omellets to order. we were glad to see that Universal finally got someplace for breakfast that while not cheep was at least close to being worth the price. considering that in the parks they charge $5.95 for a breakfast sandwich...

Bula bar and grille
our casual fun poolside restaurant. features wraps, tropical salads, fish sandwiches and pressed Polynesian cuban sandwich ???.
try $8.95 for a burger and no fries... ouch

Tchoup chop (pronounced chop-chop)
Emeril Lagasse's second universal restaurant takes Asian cuisine and kicks it up a notch...
translated- expect lots of money for a little food.
