The resort will be in Holiday mode and is very pretty and festive. Hopefully, It's A Small World will be re-opened, and my guess would be that it would have the holiday overlay. Haunted Mansion will have the holiday overlay.
Are you arriving the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving or the weekend following Thanksgiving? How long are you staying? I am not the crowd expert, but I would imagine that the park would be tamer starting the Sunday after the holiday.
What all are you interested in doing during your trip? How old are your kids? What are their interests?
Have fun planning and good luck keeping your secret!:)

Santas reindeer roundup at big thunder ranch...cookie decorating, a little stage show, Pluto, Mrs. Claus, Clarabelle Cluck often wandering around visiting with the guests, coloring and crafts. A nice sit down break in the day. Also live reindeer and you can get your picture taken with Santa.
I am not sure I would count on Small World being reopened, but hopefully!!
Haunted Mansion has the Nightmare before Christmas overlay.
After the fireworks it snows on Main Stree, NO Square, and Small World Mall while White Christmas plays.
A GREAT Christmas parade a couple of times a day.
Yummy holiday treats ... gingerbread men, candy canes, holiday fudge, etc.
Beautiful huge tree at the beginning of Main Street...great photo op
Strolling Dickens carolers
Even if you are staying off property you should visit the resort hotel lobbies and see the trees and decorations.
DCA also has a Santa...a surfer Santa! They too have a large tree.
Wonderful time for a visit...

That's the best part of a Disney holiday.
DCA has yummy treats too.

Thank you to all those who have given me great things. My DDs are 6 and 5. We are getting there the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving and then there all week leaving late on Thursday around dinner time. Also do you think that the Birthday thing is worth it at the Plaza inn.

I have never experienced thie birthday party, but here is the information (and when passing by, it looks like FUN!):
The Happiest Birthdays on Earth celebration party at Plaza Inn, led by host Pat E. Cake.
The cost is $15.99 per guest (under 3 free) which includes, cake, punch, party hats, a special Happy Birthday cup and Mickey Mouse Plate. Everyone at the party enjoys punch while decorating their own birthday cake with icing and toppings. There is even a top prize awarded to the best cake! There is also a photo opportunity with Mickey and Minnie at the end. The picture must be purchased separately, it is not part of the $10 per person package. If you buy the photo at the Plaza Inn instead of at the Photo Supply shop you can buy 3 sheets of photos in various sizes for $29.99. A CM mentioned that this is the better deal. There are usually two seatings per day, usually at 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.. Parties are 40 minutes each. Call Disney Dining up to 30 days in advance to book a party. Children under two are free. AP discount applies.
And...you can also....
Stop by City Hall and get a birthday button - and don't forget to pick up the phone on the desk and get a birthday call from Goofy!
Guests at the Goofy’s Kitchen character meal can also purchase an additional party bag for $5.00 plus tax which includes a soft foam puzzle, a Goofy silhouette writing pen, maracas, a party hat, a birthday button and balloons at their table. You will receive a birthday cupcake that is VERY large.
