View Full Version : Need quick advice [Airport Hotel]
Leslie 06-08-2008, 05:16 AM I had a thought to bounce of you to see what ya'll think. June 29th we leave Pop for a 7:00am flight. which means at the DME in the lobby 4:00am so up at 3:00am. Here's my thought, since were all paid at the pop through the 29th. go to the parks all day 28th. until evening go back to POP take showers pack and head down to DME to take us to airport. Then stay at the Hyatt for the night so we dont have to get up at 3:00am and can just walk our luggage out the room door to airport counter that next morning?and hope the plane for home. no rushing that morning for DME so early I cant see yet? lol Anyone done this before? Any other airport hotel in the terminal besides Hyatt? Thanks in advance for the advice. I need to make a decision soon.
Cheshire Figment 06-08-2008, 05:24 AM I have done that. The Hyatt is the only hotel in the terminal building itself (all others are actually off the airport property). And the bellman will take your luggage directly to your airline check in with you if requested.
Leslie 06-08-2008, 05:36 AM My added thought is stay at the park until around 6:00PM and catch the DME bus around 7:30pm and just chill out at the Hyatt and watch plans until we go to bed early so we can get up around 5:00am or so. and head to americal counter for baggage check in then have time for breakfast in the terminal before flight take off.
GusMan 06-08-2008, 05:40 AM This is similar to what we are doing but for the way down. We got some real early flights to MCO before our next two trips. So, we booked the night before at the O'Hare Hilton. Not only will it be very convenient but I wont have to worry about travel times to the airport, which in this area can be a big variable.
Leslie 06-08-2008, 06:36 AM I just read my original posts and I really shouldnt post until I have had my coffee. Sorry about all the typo's. lol
Drince88 06-08-2008, 08:03 AM If you decide to do that, you should really should change the 'flight information' with DME so they have accurate counts for their buses. I'd do that at the airport, don't call them from home and really confuse them!
Also, if you don't get your DME notice the day before, call them so they expect you at the right time.
And FYI, one time my sister had a really early flight like that, and they picked her and another solo guest from another hotel up in a town car, since it didn't make any sense to run the big ole bus for 2 people.
But I've also had early flights like that and had a very full bus, so it's all in the luck of the draw.
Leslie 06-08-2008, 08:45 AM Hubby just asked me how much for the Hyatt room for the 1 night. I told him the best rate I can find is $189.00. He said WHAT??? So now I have to talk him into to it. Im like well were spending $2500.00 for this trip what's another $189.00 right? He was not amused with me at that point. He is one of the tightest tight wads I know. lol
UsBurchs 06-08-2008, 10:13 AM My parents stayed there this past April for an early flight out of Orlando. They said it was well worth the money to avoid hassle. They said the hotel was very nice and they didn't hear airplanes all night, to their suprise. Of course, they are DEEP sleepers.
GusMan 06-08-2008, 01:17 PM Im like well were spending $2500.00 for this trip what's another $189.00 right?
7.5% more than what you are already spending - and that is not including taxes, etc.
But in all seriousness, in re-reading what you are doing, its not a small amount looking at the scheme of things - if you dont have it in the budget already. But what you have to look at is if it will give you value for what you are spending. Thats the main thing - cost vs. value add. In essence, you are paying for a second room for that one night. Is it worth it for a few hours extra sleep? Maybe not. I mean, you should still allow at least an hour to get through the check-in and security processes.
Unfortunately, you are at the point where your trip was right around the corner and to take off a day at the Pop will cost you more in fees than what you will save. For the next trip, if you get an early morning flight you could check out of your Disney hotel one day, stay at the parks all day, take DME to the airport hotel, then stay there for the night.
Leslie 06-08-2008, 01:29 PM Actually GusMan we wouldnt even get to the Hyatt until around 8:00pm then check in and go find dinner. May not get back to room until 10:00pm for bed then up at 5:00am so in all reality we would pay $189.00 for 7 hours in the room. Maybe not such a good idea after all.
micmoushous 06-23-2008, 02:49 PM We were planning to do that for our holidays...now I am not so sure, our flight leaves at 6:15 a.m. Will DME take you to the airport at midnight or after the park closes? Then it may be worth it to sleep in the airport...
Drince88 06-23-2008, 03:04 PM A lot of airports won't let you sleep there unless there's a flight reason (like, they had the airport closed for 2 hours in the middle of the day between Christmas and New Years and EVERYONE got messed up,and there are no nearby hotel rooms. Been there, done that!) And I think you'd get a much more restful sleep with 3 hours sleep in a hotel bed vs 5 hours in an airport chair!
UsBurchs 06-28-2008, 09:45 PM I was just at the Orlando airport on Thursday (flying through - very depressing not to be going to WDW!) I took photos of the Hyatt from the inside of the airport atrium and will try to post the photos. Cool thing about the hotel . . . the Disney Earport store is right underneith! (as well as Univeral Studios store, SeaWorld store, Kennedy . . . etc). I had to get my WDW fix at the store, but had to remind myself I'll be back in a couple months and I only had a carry-on with me! ;)
(notice Disney store under windows)

I know what you mean. I've done many shows at the Anaheim Convention Center, and it just about KILLS me to walk outside, see California Screamin' and the big granite grizzly bear and not have any time to even drop in for a quick Disney fix!!!
