June 5 (Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co.'s Florida theme parks may lose visitors later this year because of airline cutbacks, according to Pali Capital Research.

Carriers will provide 8.4 percent fewer seats to Orlando starting in October,

While none of this should come as a shock, it is something that is going to become a reality within the next few months. Heck, I have tickets for my next two trips on a couple different airlines that may be a part of this reduction. That does not settle too well with me. But it also proves that not even some of the hottest vacation spots are going to immune to cutbacks and other economic impacts that we see today.

While not all air carriers are a part of these cuts, its hard to not add the phrase "...at least not right now."

No, I dont think it is time to panic, but for those who have tickets for trips in the next 6 months or so, keep an eye on the news as well as online status of your flights. The sooner you see an issue, the better your chances of getting it resolved. After all, some of the changes that are being announced may not start being implemented for a few months from now.

To add to what GusMan said - if the airline DOES change your flight times because they're cancelling flights, and you are not happy with the change, CALL THEM as soon as you can! I had one time they changed their schedule around, and instead of leaving at 1 pm (this wasn't an Orlando trip), they had me leaving at 7 am. And they had an 11 am flight that would work perfectly for me. So I called, and they switched to the 11 am no problem. The agent said they switch you to what THEY prefer - if it's not what YOU would prefer, you have to make yourself known!

Now, with these wide-spread cutbacks, I'm not sure how much flexibility the airlines will have - but you never know!

Also, not every airline will send you an email when they make a change - so that's why you need to check the online status!

I bet this is one reason why Southwest is not releasing their dates past October yet!

I was trying to use frequent flyer miles on American for a trip in September and after the initial hold I put on a ticket when there were at least five direct flights (from New York no less!) they are down to only two afternoon flights. I've ended up on Jet Blue because the vacation time is so limited I really wanted an early morning departure and late evening return...Hopefully someday I will be able to use those miles but I am not counting on it.

Southwest has always posted their airfares for about 3 months at a time.Earlier this year they started posting fares about 5 months out. I live in the Kansas City area and SW is one of our major carriers. A month ago I booked a trip for late Oct from KC to Ft Lauderdale and the within the last 2 weeks the one way fare from KC has gone from $78 to $178. Sure glad I booked when I did. It's always wise to keep checking airfares as they change .It does pay to be flexiable on departure times.
I really hope this ecomony gets betters I am so afraid for the travel industry. Disney may have to lower room rates to get business. It's going to hurt everyone in the long run.

We are flying Alligiant Air into Orlando/Stanford airport. We were suspose to be leaving on Wed. June 18 got a letter in the mail on Friday the 13th was told our flight had be changed to Tuesday June 17. I bet the flight wasn't full so they decided to cancell it. After a few hours of complete panic I finally made new arrangments for hotel and car service.

A reduction in airline service may affect Disney? May?? Right now the one and only factor blocking our next trip to Disney World is the situation with the airlines. Price AND service. I've flown United many times over the past 20 years for thousands of miles. They've always been my #1 airline. But charging extra for the first bag? Give me a break! There is a good chance I'll never fly them again. And Delta? All of a sudden I'm seeing a ton of ads for their frequent flyer program, while at the same time the news is telling us they are likely to be the next airline to go under. If you do fly, you'd better give very serious consideration to flight insurance.

At first I was a big believer that WDW was going to see a decrease in visitors, but our local AAA office said the only vacations they are booking are ones to WDW and that's it. Nobody is giving up their Disney vacation.

My friend is a pilot. He says that the trips to Orlando are going to be slashed, especially non-stops (at least from here in MN). There will be far, far fewer options available.

My MF tickets are on Northwest which is SUPPOSED to merge with Delta, but now buzz is that they're shaky, so I don't know WHAT's going to happen with that. It is certainly scary. I think if the fuel costs continue to rise at current rates, we're ALL in a mess of trouble.
