View Full Version : Here are my ADRs, what do you think?
Fantasmicgal 06-04-2008, 11:53 AM DS(18) & I are going to WDW Sept 20-30 for free dining and the Food & Wine festival. I have, for the most part, booked places that we have not previously experienced. The only places we have eaten before are Ohana and Boma, both of which we really enjoyed.
Here they are:
9/20- Ohana 9:10 pm
9/21- Tony's Town Square 7:45 pm
9/22- Boma 10:30 am -out of pocket
9/23- Tusker House 4:50 pm
9/24- Mama Melrose(Fantasmic Pkg) 4:20 pm
9/25- Coral Reef 1:20 pm
9/26- San Angel Inn 7:45 pm
9/27- Spirit of Aloha 8:00 pm
9/28- Les Chefs de France 6:00 pm
9/29- Rose & Crown 7:10 pm
Let me know if you have any suggestions on what to eat, what you liked or disliked about it etc. Thanks in advance:)
ForeverPrincess 06-04-2008, 02:02 PM Looks great to me. I love Ohana and also enjoyed the Luau last Sept when we went. Was very disappointed with The Coral Reef. Food and service were not so great. With a 18 year old how about ESPN grill. I'm going in two weeks and plan on taking my 13 and my 17 year old son there. Have a wonderful trip!
KirstenMagicalTravel 06-04-2008, 05:35 PM Funny- I loved Coral Reef and didn't like O'Hanas. :D
One place I really enjoyed was the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. Maybe you can do that instead of OHanas since you have done that before.
Other than that suggestion, I like your choices. Have a great time!
THpoohbear 06-05-2008, 10:20 AM It looks like you've got a great range of places! Below are some of my experiences. :)
9/20- Ohana 9:10 pm LOVE the dessert here! Since you already know you like this place, nuff said.
9/21- Tony's Town Square 7:45 pm - Not been.
9/22- Boma 10:30 am -Really cool experience. I love love love the chocolate mousse dessert. I must be weird because I don't like the beloved zebra domes, though. Very grand assortment of foods. Even for pickey eaters, there should be enough for a decent meal.
9/23- Tusker House - Never been.
9/24- Mama Melrose - Never been.
9/25- Coral Reef - I didn't love this place. I booked it really for my DH though, and he loved his dish. Blackened catfish. He said it was the his favorite dish of the whole trip! I had an adr at 6:50, which I thought would be plenty of time to eat and get out for Illuminations. They were horribly backed up. We weren't seated for another 40 minutes. I did ask for a tank side table, but they told me it would be another hour, so we declined. We were seated all the way in the back. The service was very slow. We got our drinks right away, and the appetizer came pretty decently, but then it was over a half an hour before we saw our entrees. We had to ask for dessert to go if we had a chance of making illuminations. We were very disappointed to learn the only dessert they would box up for us was the chocolate wave, which my DH didn't want and ended up not eating. We had to race out and grab a last minute spot for the show, just a couple minutes before things kicked off. I'm not motivated to go back... but some seem to love it. Since I've read many reports of late seatings. My advice is to check in early and also give plently of time here. I wouldn't book it before Illuminations or another timed event you want to get to.
9/26- San Angel Inn - For us, this has been our worst meal out of two 9 night WDW trips. The food just was not good. I ordered a steak combo dish and the steak was very tough and bland. Neither of us enjoyed any part of that meal, except for the atmosphere. It could have just been an off day and I know people who love it there so I hope you have better luck!
9/27- Spirit of Aloha - Never been. But it sounds really fun to me!
9/28- Les Chefs de France 6:00 pm- My DH loved this place, and enjoyed it as well. I liked the atmosphere and I loved our french waiter, and the food is tasty.
9/29- Rose & Crown - Never been.
Enjoy!
Drince88 06-05-2008, 01:43 PM 9/22- Boma 10:30 am -Really cool experience. I love love love the chocolate mousse dessert. I must be weird because I don't like the beloved zebra domes, though. Very grand assortment of foods. Even for pickey eaters, there should be enough for a decent meal.
I've had both breakfast and dinner there - I don't recall seeing the dessert selection at breakfast, but then I was not looking for it in the morning, either!
I'm generally not a huge breakfast eater, but I really did enjoy the Boma breakfast.
THpoohbear 06-05-2008, 02:28 PM Thanks for catching my error, Cathy. :) I completely wasn't looking at the times and just whirled through my comments. So, Fantasmicgal, I guess you'll be missing the mousse. Did you have it your first time at Boma?
FWIW I just read a review on Boma breakfast and it looked so good I wanted to lick my computer screen! The review was awesome!
Fantasmicgal 06-05-2008, 02:53 PM Thanks for all of your comments & suggestions everyone.:)
Please keep them coming.
THpoohbear, I have only eaten at Boma for breakfast & it was yummy, that's why we are going back. I guess I will just have to come back again to enjoy the mousse:D
danyoung 06-06-2008, 07:41 AM Here's my take on your choices -
9/20- Ohana 9:10 pm
An excellent meal! They've recently redone their menu, and it's MUCH better than it was a couple years ago. While the standard dessert is still the bread pudding (which ain't bad), if you ask you can get the incredible pineapple slices with caramel dipping sauce that they used to have - heaven! Don't plan on doing anything after dinner, cuz you'll be too stuffed to move!!!
9/22- Boma 10:30 am -out of pocket
I've had a couple of fine meals here. Don't miss out on the soups - incredible!
9/23- Tusker House 4:50 pm
Never had dinner here, but had breakfast before the park opened. Breakfast buffet was good, with some unusual choices. The only problem I had was that it took about 45 minutes to get seated!
9/25- Coral Reef 1:20 pm
This used to be hands down one of my favorite restaurants on property, but sadly the last couple times the food has been lacking. They've way simplified their menu, down from about 20 items to SEVEN, and only 3 of those were seafood. Completely unacceptable. I've still enjoyed great service, and I always book early so I can then wait for a seat down by the glass. Since you're doing lunch there, timing isn't a critical issue.
9/26- San Angel Inn 7:45 pm
Without a doubt the lamest restaurant I've eaten at on property. The atmosphere is incredible, very Blue Bayou-ish, but the food is simply blah. Their chips and salsa are TOSTITOS RIGHT OUT OF THE BAG and bland tomato paste-ish dip. And the meal has always been just so so. As much as I love the atmosphere, it'll be a while before I try this one again.
9/28- Les Chefs de France 6:00 pm
A wonderful restaurant with a great view of the Promenade. I actually enjoy the Bistro de Paris upstairs more, but Les Chefs is terrific.
9/29- Rose & Crown 7:10 pm
Wow, you have a great time booked. I suggest getting there early and asking for a patio seat outside for IllumiNations. They do great fish & chips here, as well as shepherd's pie. Also the mushroom medley appetizer is to die for!
Since you're going during the F&W Festival, may I suggest a novel meal for either lunch or dinner one day? Most of the food booths around the World Showcase Lagoon accept your dining plan snack credits for many of their items. It's posted up on their menu boards which items you can get with a snack credit. Simply save up most of your snack credits, and then enjoy a meal one morsel at a time while working your way around the lagoon. And if you're a wine drinker, this is an excellent way to sample different wines of the world. Don't miss out on the spiced plum wine - very very tasty!!!
petesimac 06-06-2008, 08:39 AM As far as San Angel Inn, I love it; the atmosphere is simply the best; sort of a west coast Blue Bayou (if you've ever been to Disneyland). The food is fine, in my experience, but even if it wasn't the best, the atmosphere more than makes up for it, in my opinion.
petesimac 06-06-2008, 08:40 AM Oh, and Chefs de France is my favorite! It wouldn't be a trip to WDW, without a visit to Chefs de France. So very cool.
Fantasmicgal 06-06-2008, 09:31 AM Thanks Dan & Pete, after reading the opinions on Coral Reef & San Angel, I am mainly going for the views anyway & it will be a bonus to get good food.:)
By the way, what did you order at both places that you liked/disliked?
THpoohbear 06-06-2008, 10:34 AM I'll add that at the Coral Reef, my DH had blacked catfish over some kind of grits and he raved about it! My sister and I had the pasta they offer, and it was very blah. Absolutely no flavor. I had the sea and land appetizer and I really loved the beef. Unfortunatly I dropped one of my pieces on the floor. =(.
