View Full Version : Getting to Animal Kingdom Lodge from Animal Kingdom - non resort guest
UsBurchs 05-19-2008, 04:00 PM Ok, It's me again with another question similar to one I had before . . . but for a different part of the journey.
Here's the situation: We want to eat at Boma for dinner the day we go to AK. How do we get to the Lodge from AK? I looked at a map and it doesn't look like a good walk - no sidewalks - am I correct? It looked a bit long anyway. Can we take a bus even though we aren't staying at a resort? How have other people gotten to the Lodge from AK when not staying on-site?
(My question before was how to get back to DT Disney - at least - after dinner. We are staying at the Royal Plaza and I don't want to pay for a cab. The answer I got there was it is probably ok to take a resort bus back to DT Disney that evening seeing as how we were at the restaurant.)
jengold29 05-19-2008, 04:04 PM You can just take the bus.
Don't think twice about it.
GusMan 05-19-2008, 04:05 PM You can use the bus to go from AK to AKL even though you are not a resort guest.
UsBurchs 05-19-2008, 04:32 PM Well, there ya go! I need to stop worrying so much. :) I guess I just don't want to be stuck. (Not like being stuck at a Disney park is a bad thing, but, you know . . .)
Thanks again!
danyoung 05-22-2008, 06:29 AM Just be aware that the OFFICIAL policy is that only on property resort guests can use the monorails, busses and boats. In reality, they have never checked any type of ID or room key card on any of these. Use the bus - you'll be fine.

Actually, I think the official policy allows you to use them if you have park hopper tickets, too.
But, one time I was arriving at Epcot, and they were telling us that the monorail to the TTC was down, and we'd have to take the bus to get there. This is first thing in the morning, and they were telling this to people coming FROM the buses. I asked about that, and the CM said that some of hte offsite shuttles ONLY drop people at Epcot, and those were the people she was trying to get the message to. So I think it's actually condoned to use the internal transportation if you're an offsite guest, even if the actual policy is if you have park hoppers.
GusMan 05-22-2008, 08:50 AM UsBurchs, will you have a car at the parks or will you be using a hotel shuttle or other transportation?
ourtrip 05-27-2008, 03:20 PM I would offer one word of caution. Since i assume you are driving and parking at AK before dinner at Boma, keep in mind that AK closes earlier then the other parks by a few hours or more depending on the season and day (EMHours...). Since the busses do stop routes at some point after the park closes, you want to be sure you can catch a bus back to AK (or be prepared for a short taxi ride) after your meal.
UsBurchs 05-29-2008, 09:13 AM We are renting a car and using it only for the first three days of our trip while in Cape Canaveral then it gets dropped off at the Hilton the day we arrive at WDW. My plan was to take our hotel shuttle (the Downtown Disney Hotel Shuttle) in the morning to AK and then at closing, take a bus over to AK Lodge (if possible) to have dinner at Boma. (I'm making ADR's next week) My problem, at that point, is getting back to Downtown Disney which people have told me I can do via an official Disney bus from Animal Kingdom Lodge to Downtown Disney (from there, we can walk to our hotel or catch another Downtown Disney Hotel Shuttle).
I guess we'll just have to chance it. I've gotten so many different answers - but the most common is they hardly ever check and that we should be able to take the WDW bus no problem.
GusMan 05-29-2008, 12:46 PM Are you staying at the Hilton at DD or is that just where you are dropping off the car?
If you are staying at the Hilton right at Downtown Disney, then you could take a bus from AKL to DD, then walk over without a problem.
At the same time, if at all possible, consider keeping the car for your trip. Hotel shuttles can be hit or miss at times. The extra few bucks spent may very well be worth not having to worry.
UsBurchs 05-30-2008, 10:34 PM No, we are staying at the Royal Plaza - Avis has a drop-off at the Hilton. AND, I looked into getting the car for the whole trip, but WHEW!!!! $$$$$$ As it is, we're spending too much for three days (and that's with a Boeing discount too!). We have to have a small SUV to fit five of us and all our stuff - car seat and stroller included. It sure was a thought, however! Not having to worry so much about transportation would be nice, but this Boma dinner transportaton issue is really the only snag in our plans - otherwise, the Downtown Disney Hotel Shuttles will work for us just fine. We plan on using Quicksilver back to the airport.
