Hi all,

I've come here for help in the past and will continue to do so in the future so here goes.

Recently, I was involved in a pretty serious auto accident, fortunately my wife and son were not with me and I'm very lucky to still be here. How does this relate to our upcoming Disney trip? Well, much to my surprise, federal and state regulations state that a car seat that has been involved in any type of auto accident should immediately be replaced. The seat manufacturer cannot guarantee the safety of the seat once it's been involved in an accident.

We've been using a seat that was givin to us, but we're buying a new one this week. My question is:

Can anyone give a suggestion as to a car seat that is somewhat easy to travel with? We'll never compromise our son's safety for the inconvenience of a few extra pounds or something, but I'm wondering if a manufacturer makes a seat designed specifically for flights or one that's more travel friendly so to speak?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm considering asking the pros and cons of "the children on a leash" thing, but I'll wait on that.
:)

Take care all,

Bob

I only have experience flying with my Britax Roundabout. I love this carseat. From my research, I concluded that it's the best on the market and if you're in a car that doesn't have those new "clips" under the seat, there are clips on the side and top of the carseat for holding seatbelts in place.

I did get my hand stuck in the roundabout trying to install it on one flight. Oops! That was the only time I tried to install it myself. ;) So I don't have a lot of tips for installing it on an airplane but I love that carseat.

If you are flying, and buying your carseat bound child his own seat, be sure to get a carseat that is airline approved. Most people do not think of this when purchasing a seat, but since you have to buy one anyway and are planning a trip...
Many airlines will NOT let you use a car seat if it is not approved by FAA regulations. And not all carseats meet these standards. If you get to your flight and the carseat doesn't meet these standards, they will make you check your seat, or put it in the overhead. Check with your airline to see if they have the FAA requirements, if so, be sure to find a seat that meets them, or you will be wasting a ticket. (I had this happen...they told me I had to hold my then 3 month old son rather than using his seat, because it wasn't approved...what a flight that was. That was 5 years ago though, things may have changed...)
Hope this helps, and I'll keep an eye out for future posts about traveling with a youngster... I've done alot of that with my now 5 year old.

I'm considering asking the pros and cons of "the children on a leash" thing, but I'll wait on that. We used the "leash" on a couple of our trips with our daughter, especially when she was just learning to walk. Sitting in a stroller all day gets a little boring and the leash allowed her to move around without having to worry about her escaping or getting underfoot. Since she turned 3 we haven't used the leash.

Note: There have been a couple of discussions on this subject (you might want to try the search option).
