View Full Version : Animal Kingdom touring plan
Serenity1207 05-17-2008, 01:30 PM Does anyone have a good touring plan for AK? I have the UOG book and it delays the Kilimanjaro Safari until after lunch. I had heard that the safari was best in the morning. So, I'm not sure where to go from there. EE is a priority as is the safari. Anyone have any recommendations on where to start the first few hours of the day? Thanks for your help :)
scoobydooby 05-17-2008, 03:03 PM Enter the park through the RFC and head straight for a Fast Pass for EE before proceeding to KMS to ride. However large the wait that's built up while you got that FP, it's only going to get worse... AK is a park to be enjoyed slowly but I would save the savouring for after first thing unless I was a very regular visitor. After KMS walk the Pangani Forest Trail. Then check out the line for KRR, if not too obscene do that then your EE fast pass should be good to go, followed by the Maharaja Jungle Trek. You will probably have made it to lunch time by then so after that I think it's down to wise use of FP based on what you want to do most. I'd probably get a Dinosaur FP before lunch, watch Nemo after lunch, then do Dinosaur and then let the children loose in the Boneyard. If the Dinosaur FP had quite a late return we could always enjoy exploring the Tree of Life and the bits at the front of the park first.
nutsformickey 05-17-2008, 03:15 PM I think the UOG focuses more on seeing all the attractions rather than enjoying the animals and all of the wild beauty that is AK. If enjoying the "zoo" aspect of AK is a priority then I would go directly to EE and get a fast pass in the morning. Then go directly to the safari and ride it.
Go see the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail while it is still cool enough to see as many animals as possible before they take their afternoon nap.
You could go to Rafikis Planet watch next if that is of interest.
If not I would go on the Maharaja Jungle Trek before riding EE with your fast pass in order to see the tigers as early in the heat of the day as possible.
Don't miss Flights of Wonder, it's a great show that you can really fit in wherever you want. It's never overly crowded and heat is not a factor.
We love the Oasis as well, really exploring there on the way out is great. It's cooling off and you can take your time because you're not in a mad rush to hit rides.
Hope this helps. :D
jengold29 05-18-2008, 03:55 AM Who are you travelling with? Kids, teens, adults? What's on your must see list? Will you be there on an EMH day?
This is our usual plan (2 adults 2 kids)
Enter as early as possible. Ride the safari first thing. My husband heads to EE to grab fastpasses, kids and I go to Festival of the Lion King show (usually around 9:40) and he meets us there. After the show maybe stay and meet some characters and head over to EE for fastpass rides. Do baby swap so my son rides twice. Lunch at Flame Tree bbq (I order while he gets FPs for Dinosaur). It's Tough To Be a Bug, Dinosaur, Primeval Whirl, Carnival Games (my kids love them), Maybe the Nemo show, Walk the trail and see the Gorillas and last (if everyone is still happy) Kali River Rapids.
This usually takes us until about 3 pm.
If we stay later we watch the parade, ride the train to the Conservation Station and to the walk where the tigers are.
danyoung 05-18-2008, 11:23 AM I actually do the opposite of some of the above suggestions, and it works extremely well for me. I go to the Safari and get a FP first thing, then book on over to EE. By the time I get there the opening gate crush has abated, and I usually can get 3 or 4 rides in before the line even gets to 20 minutes. Then it's back to the Safari for my FP ride. enjoying the Pangani Trail on the way out. It's a bit of walking, but it is a beautiful park, and walking past the Tree of Life is pretty impressive!
After that I'll go do Dinosaur and then maybe the Nemo show if the time is right, and then Tough To Be A Bug. I'm not big on the Lion King show or the bird show, so the only attraction left is Kali River Rapids if it's warm enough to warrant getting wet. Lunch at the Flame Tree BBQ and then it's back to my hotel room for well deserved, air-conditioned nap!
Serenity1207 05-20-2008, 07:18 AM Hi everyone!! Thank you for your suggestions :) For what it's worth, those traveling are four adults, two 12-year old boys, and a 14 month old baby. The biggest priorities are EEand KMS. Also, Dinosaur and Primeval Whirl. I'd also like to take the baby to see some things for her, like Nemo and the bird show.
Thanks again for your suggestions. I'm always open to more :)
Drince88 05-20-2008, 07:21 AM A 14 month old would probably like Festival of the Lion King, too. And the boneyard has a fun 'dig pit' on the otherside of the walkway that might be fun for the little one. (It's pea gravel, not sand, so not as messy - but it would depend on the development level of the 14 month old, I'd think).
ArnyVee 05-20-2008, 11:15 AM I would do the same thing as previously suggested....get there first thing and head to Everest, grab a fastpass and then go to Kilimanjaro Safari and wait. It's best in the morning IMO and then you can basically take care of the rest of the park slowly.
