View Full Version : Dining Options Help
disneygirl17 05-15-2008, 10:00 AM I am going to be heading to disney with my DH, grandmother and grandfather. We will be there for mousefest!!!!
Anyways we are going to have the dining plan. As I have it set we are going to eat at Boma, LeCellier, 'Ohana and we need two more places.
I have it set like this....
12/12 - Animal Kingdom, dinner Boma (we are staying at the lodge)
12/13 - Epcot dinner LeCellier
12/14 - Studios - Dinner (?)
12/15 - Magic Kingdom - 'Ohana
12/16 we are leaving in the afternoon that day
So we have 2 open spots. I was thinking breakfast maybe somewhere or lunch. I was thinking the Coral Reef maybe. I am just not sure. My grandfather is hard of hearing and his hearing aids make it hard for him to be in really loud environments. I am trying to get a once DP credit, quite restraurant.
Any ideas?
thanks all!
scoobydooby 05-15-2008, 01:52 PM Why don't you use 2 credits at the Studios at the Brown Derby (I think that's the correct name??). I haven't eaten there so this is not a personal recommendation but I understand it is a higher end eatery and not ideal for children so this might suit your party. My DH is also hearing impaired and he couldn't hear a thing at some of the character places some of the time or Whispering Canyon Cafe... Or how about Jiko at your hotel, also 2 credits? If your empty meal day is when you're at the Studios you could also consider the hotels which you can get to from there by boat. I think this would open up the Boardwalk and Yacht and Beach Club restaurants to you. Admittedly this would then be a trak back to AKL without car.
Drince88 05-16-2008, 10:01 AM Do you arrive on the 11th or the 12th? Because if the 12th, I only see that you have one opening - since you get a table service for each NIGHT at the resort.
I'd recommend Jiko over Brown Derby in a heartbeat, if you're going to do a 2 credit dinner.
I don't recall Coral Reef being excessively loud - and might be good for a lunch.
I just ate at Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom, and that didn't seem super loud, but it also wasn't super crowded when I was there. Maybe do that on your AK day, and Boma on your Studios day if you aren't staying for Fantasmic. Boma also has a nice breakfast buffet.
disneygirl17 05-16-2008, 10:24 AM We have one open dinner and then just another credit for whenever. We are arriving on the 12th. Well the 11th but we aren't checking into our AKL until the 12th. We are arriving late on the 11th and by the time we knew our exact arrival rooms were full at AKL.
I didn't think about using 2 credits for something like Jiko or Brown Derby. I also didn't think about going to Boma the night we do the studios.
I had the Yak and Yeti on my list at first but now I am sure about the noise....being that you said it wasn't too bad maybe during an off time like 2:00 or so it wouldn't be so bad....
thanks for all your help
Drince88 05-16-2008, 10:48 AM 2 pm would probably be a great time for Yak and Yeti. I was also upstairs, right by the stairs, so it was a larger volume of air, but fewer tables, so that might have helped with the noise level where I was.
I still don't see how you have an open TS credit to use, though - You check in on the 12th -and out on the 16th - so that means you are staying at AKL on the nights of the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th. Therefore 4 TS credits to use.
disneygirl17 05-19-2008, 07:18 AM Drince88 - you are right...I wasn't thinking of it that.
Well that helps alot becuase now I am not trying to figure out how to squeeze in that dinner/breakfast.
I have a few weekd before I make a final decision so I will be thinking long and hard about that last dinner.
Thanks for all your help
mckat 05-26-2008, 07:52 AM I can highly recommend the 50s prime time diner at the Studios. I have also eaten at the SciFi diner Hollywood and Vine and the Brown Derby, but just made reservations for the Prime time for our next trip. I know people often try to get the best "deal" in terms of expensive food. But we really loved the Prime time diner. The food was simple but very good. Very much comfort food, which in a busy trip can be a real nice thing! The meatloaf was great. The decor was fun (and you may have people who remember the originals) and the deserts are on a viewmaster! This way you don't have to leave the park and can just relax! And while you are in the park, you might want to catch the drawing class at the animation studios. We missed it the first two times we were there, but it is a fun way to take a break and sit down and learn to draw a Disney Character an animator. We did dinner and then the drawing and then got to Fantasmic. It was a great night....
mckat 05-26-2008, 07:55 AM PS If I only went to one restrurant at WDW it would be Bomas. You can be as adventurous or just eat the really tasty, but not too spicy, choices. And the dessert area is great. I'm not fond of buffets, but at Bomas it really gives you a chance to sample some interesting foods without investing a whole meal choice.

You see, I'm the opposite; I love SciFi but dislike Prime Time Diner. I'd do it at least one time, just for yucks, but most of the staff don't play along like they used to, and the food is very basic and the menu isn't varied enough, for me, to justify going more than one or two times. SciFi has a bit of the same issues, but the ambiance is so unique and fun that a visit to WDW just isn't complete without a visit to SciFi.
