View Full Version : Plaza Inn or Goofy's Kitchen?
Ophelia 05-14-2008, 08:39 AM Hello everyone!
My family has booked a meal at Goofy's Kitchen in June. We have been there several times and love it! But my brother just got back from the park and said his family really enjoyed the Minnie and Friends character breakfast and in fact liked it better than Goofy's Kitchen. Now I am wondering whether to change our reservation to the Plaza Inn. What do you guys think? Which one is better? By the way, we have kids ages 5-17, if that helps. Thanks, everyone!
ssturgeo 05-14-2008, 08:50 AM If you have never been to the Minnie and Friends, I think you should try it. Character interaction seems more relaxed and more personal attention than at Goofy's!!
Another great character breakfast is at the Paradies Pier...Lilo and Stitch character breakfast...GREAT for all ages, it is a must do now for us every trip. Character interaction is the best at this one. And, the characters "play" among themselves too...had a ball watching Minnie throw a ball for Pluto to fetch. And, the elusive Daisy Duck, who you rarely see in the park, is usually there for autographs and pictures.
We have done all three...but never StoryTellers...that is on my list...like to try ALLl the different experiences!!
IdahoMike 05-14-2008, 08:55 AM My family and I just did both Goofy's and Minnie's. We liked both, but for different reasons. Goofy's had a better food selection for sure, and the character interaction was excellent, especially Alice. We also got to meet Chip, Dale, Goofy, Gideon from Pinocchio, a Mary Poppins Penguin (didn't stop at our table), Pluto, and I think one other, but I can't remember who. Chip drew himself on our tablecloth, and Gideon wrote "even bad guys use their napkins" because one of my sons had a messy face!
Minnie's had about 11 characters available, I'm guessing because we went on Mother's Day, and it also cost less. The food was good, but not as much of a selection. We did like the fact that you could get bottles of Nesquik for the kids, rather than just having glasses/cups that were filled. Characters that I remember: Minnie, Tigger, Eeyore, Max, Rafiki, Brer Fox, Captain Hook, Alice, Mad Hatter, Peter Pan and "Perry the Penguin" from Mary Poppins (that's how he signed the book). Rafiki never came near our section in 2 hours that we were there, and Brer Fox skipped us, while going to every other table in our section , but every other character was great!
We enjoyed both of them quite a lot, I'd probably give a slight edge to Goofy's this time around.
Jim Dear and Darling 05-14-2008, 09:53 AM I think they food is a lot better at Goofy's. At at approx $30 per person, I'd go for the better food. I agree the character interaction is slightly better at the Plaza Inn though. I suppose it depends what you're looking for.
Matterhorn Yodeler 05-14-2008, 11:48 AM I shouldn't be replying in this thread, because I have never done a character breakfast...but I'm going to throw in my 2 cents anyway...:)
I just ate at the Plaza Inn last Sunday, and was really pleased. It is a beautiful restaurant and most importantly, you are inside Disneyland!!! What better place to interact with all of the characters!
And since you've been to Goofy's already, why not try something different?
Either way, have a wonderful time!!!
Malcon10t 05-14-2008, 04:10 PM I also prefer the food at Goofy's. Plaza Inn is primarily the basic breakfast, whereas Goofy's has more of a brunch and is more kid oriented. (Peanut Butter Pizza, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, etc...) I actually prefer dinner.
adrianne 05-14-2008, 04:11 PM Storytellers Cafe (in GCH) has a character breakfast, too. I've never done that one, but I've eaten there, and the food is GREAT!!
Disney Daddy of 4 05-14-2008, 06:10 PM what is the earliest you can get in at the plaza?
julezdisney 05-15-2008, 04:13 PM what is the earliest you can get in at the plaza?
Yes, I've been wondering that as well... anyone done this one?
Malcon10t 05-15-2008, 06:40 PM Yes, I've been wondering that as well... anyone done this one?Turnstile opening is what priority seating says. If the park opens at 8 (ie no rope drop) then 8am. If the park opens at 9 (and turnstiles open at 830am) then 830am. Park opens at 10, then 930am when the turnstiles open.
ssturgeo 05-16-2008, 05:36 AM We had reservations a year ago November for thirty minutes before park opening...they instructed us to go through the Crystal Shop to their side door and a CM would be there to ensure your entry into the Plaza Inn (since the main entrance is on the other side of the rope). We were the first ones inside and all the characters were waiting, LOTS of individual character interaction...Pluto crawling on the floor with my great-nephews, Minnie holding the youngest on her lap, etc., etc. I LOVE the earliest reservation we can get.
Malcon10t 05-16-2008, 06:32 AM We had reservations a year ago November for thirty minutes before park opening...they instructed us to go through the Crystal Shop to their side door and a CM would be there to ensure your entry into the Plaza Inn (since the main entrance is on the other side of the rope).Right, turnstile opening. But if the park opens at 8am, that is the earliest you can get in.
Disney Daddy of 4 05-16-2008, 08:30 AM we usually spend about and hour at Goofy's easy... what is the average time at the Plaza. the one thing that has appealed to me about goofy's is that we usually drive all day from reno and then hit goofy's. it is a nice way to end the long day and gear up for our time at the DLR without losing time while in the park, but now I am really thinking of the plaza for something new and exciting, plus it sounds like the interaction is a tad better. we may need to do both...
hlbtimes2 05-16-2008, 11:04 AM If you go for the food, then Goofys. If you go for the characters then Minnies. We were disappointed with the character interaction at Goofys. We have always had a great time at Minnies.
We were there on Sunday for Mothers day. The place was packed. The characters all came around a couple of times. Brer Fox was a crack up and spent a lot of time with us. He even took my camera at one point and was taking pic's with it. Max loved my sons hair and kept coming back to play with it. In the past Tigger has flown like an airplane and rolled on the floor with my kids. Minnie has played with my sons Buzz gun. We got some great pic's of her posing with it.
fronkfam 05-16-2008, 11:40 AM I'm hearing really great reviews for Minnie's, but the one time we went, I wasn't thrilled with the characters. We only saw 4-5 while we were there. We were one of the last morning seatings and had to sit outside. Is this why? Did we just have bad timing?
Thanks!
Donald Duck Fan68 05-16-2008, 12:02 PM I've been to both and lean towards Goofy's (more so because I like the food better), but I also thought the character interaction was a little better at Goofy's. However, I think a lot of it was just luck and timing. I always think it's a good idea to try something new, so I would encourage trying Minnie's. Also, from the sound of the posts, getting in right at opening provides some of the best character interaction.
Tinker6 05-16-2008, 12:20 PM We were at Goofy's Kitchen last week and it was Excellent !
stitch4336 05-16-2008, 05:17 PM We've done them both AND Lilo & Stich and the Storyteller's Cafe one - we LOVE breakfast and characters! I'd agree with everyone - food is better at Goofy's - between it and Plaza. The food at the Storyteller's Cafe is also very good - but the characters are not your traditional ones! We saw Meeko, the little bear from Brother Bear (Koda?), one of the apes from Tarzan (sorry don't remember her name!) and Chip and Dale. So the characters aren't your normal ones, but the breakfast was excelent - the omelette stations chef was GREAT.
I'd say if you've never done Minnie's at the Plaza, maybe give it a try. You'll have your basic breakfast and some good character interaction. (Mad Hatter, Alice, Fairy Godmother, Tigger, Minnie, Eeyore for us) DEFINITELY get there early though - better interaction with the characters and you get to see the park with very few peopel in it which is cool
mrsdisney68 05-16-2008, 05:31 PM We are the opposite we have always done the Minnie breakfast. Always had fun there, food was ok, but you are really paying for the experience. We always get one of the first seatings that seems to give you the most time with the charaters. We are going to try Goofy's for dinner this time, maybe Storytellers for breakfast. Have fun:fez:
Malcon10t 05-16-2008, 06:12 PM We have always had great interaction at Goofy's. One thing I will do is if we haven't had a character for a bit, I will tell our server. Usually, only a minute or two later, we will have several characters coming by.
Disney Daddy of 4 05-17-2008, 12:09 PM what is the price difference between the two?
Donald Duck Fan68 05-17-2008, 12:54 PM what is the price difference between the two?
Near as I can tell, Goofy's is about $5-6 more per adult, and about $3-4 per child.
Malcon10t 05-17-2008, 01:19 PM Brunch at Goofy's is 37.16 19.82 for kids including tax and gratuity. There is 10 or 15% discounts for APs and 10% for AAA.
Breakfast is at Plaza Inn is $29.05, +18% gratuity, +8% sales tax for a total of $36.60 or $19.40 for kids. Discounts for AP and AAA.
Disney Daddy of 4 05-17-2008, 06:11 PM I know that Goofy's food is great, but what is the typical menu at Minnie's?
Malcon10t 05-17-2008, 07:30 PM I know that Goofy's food is great, but what is the typical menu at Minnie's?Menu is accurate, prices aren't...
