View Full Version : Non-Disney Restaurants Near Paradise Pier Hotel
Matterhorn Mama 05-12-2008, 11:09 AM OK, need a little help here. We are leaving for DLR in a mere 16 days. We are staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel for the first time. Normally we stay on South Harbor Blvd.---primarily for the close proximity. We stay about a week and usually eat about half our meals at non-Disney locations we walk to from our hotel (IHOP, Tony Roma's, McDonald's, etc.)
In looking at the map, PPH is situated pretty close to West Katella Avenue so we were wondering what eateries are on that street. It would be a little closer than walking to Harbor. Of course, we'll have a rental car, so we could drive if it's someplace a little further away.
Can anyone suggest some great non-Disney places along Katella or very nearby that we could walk or even drive to? Thanks!
adriennek 05-12-2008, 11:13 AM There isn't a lot so you might end up using your car to head out to Harbor, but-
There's a Coco's at the corner of Katella and West that's about on par with the coffee shops on Harbor.
Avoid Tiffy's, on the opposite corner, at all costs. Trust me. Malcon10t and others will be along shortly to back me up. Tiffy's is the Captain Kidd's of that area. ;)
Just east of Tiffy's is the Anabella Motel. I stayed there in March and ate at their Tangerine Grill restaurant and enjoyed it very much. They have a tangerine/ginger salad dressing that was really good.

Matterhorn Mama 05-12-2008, 11:40 AM Ok thanks. Hopefully we will find something. We definitely need Kid-Friendly. How about a good Mexican or Tex-Mex style restaurant nearby? Italian?
Matterhorn Yodeler 05-12-2008, 01:53 PM Since you have a car, you may want to try the new Anaheim Garden Walk. Lots of new restaurants there. Most are well known chains, so the food should be quite good.
Let us know what you pick!
Enjoy your trip!
candles71 05-13-2008, 08:53 AM Don't forget you can walk through GCH to get to DTD w/o having to go around and its shorter if you want you can walk all the way through to get to McD's etc also. we did this recently. There is also a Denny's down from Coco's about a half a block or so.
Matterhorn Mama 05-13-2008, 11:40 AM Yes--we've cut through many times when we were staying on Harbor and heading to PPH for the Lilo and Stitch breakfast. It's not too far. We were just wondering about other options.
Thanks for the suggestions! Any and all are welcome.

Real Mexican food can be found at Tacos Mi Pueblo at the corner of Walnut and Katella. It's real Mexican, not Taco Bell, so Spanish is the language -- although everybody does okay in English -- and it may be spicy for your taste.
People do bring their entire families there though.

christina 05-14-2008, 09:08 PM There is also an El Toritos close by. ( you would need to drive there.)
Malcon10t 05-14-2008, 09:25 PM Oh yes, Tiffy's... Very ugly memory. Nope, don't go there.
Using the car - Our group loves Outback, but we love it at home too (Outback is on Harbor near Target.) There is also a Crab Shack and Red Robin there. Mimi's is my favorite in the area. But we love Mimi's at home too... Someone has said Ruth Chris's is good, I haven't been there.
genericeric 05-15-2008, 04:37 AM Ruths Chris is good, but quite expensive. 1/2 chicken for me and a small steak for my wife with sides and 2 sodas was 97.00. just a warning. We stayed at PPH a couple of weeks ago, did breakfast at coco's almost every morning, they have a buffet on weekends that my kids loved.
One odd thing for us was the lack of terriyaki joints, up here in the seattle area there is one on every corner.
Mrs Mouse 05-16-2008, 12:00 AM We really enjoy Joe's Crab Shack. It's not too far of a drive and there's quite a bit on their menu to choose from. It's also something that we don't have where we're from, so it's a nice change of pace.
Also, there's quite a few options at The Block at Orange. In that general area there's a few sit-down restaurants to choose from, as well as a bunch of fast-food type places as well. Here's a link (http://www.simon.com/mall/entertainment.aspx?ID=1236) to what's in that area.
Someone mentioned the Anaheim Garden Walk as a possibility as well. The following restaurants are now open there: Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, McCormick & Schmick's Grille, P.F. Chang's, and Roy's.

If I hadn't eaten at others with positive experiences, I wouldn't return.
Disney Daddy of 4 05-16-2008, 08:28 AM we are thinking about hitting the garden walk since we are at the extended stay.
