View Full Version : Grand Californian Downtown Disney View?
Hotheels 05-08-2008, 09:07 AM I have a room booked for the Grand Californian, Downtown Disney view. I was just wondering if there is a particular floor or room numbers I should request. My kids are really excited about being able to look at everyone walking around. Ok, I'm excited too :)
dawnid 05-08-2008, 01:48 PM I'd request the fifth floor beyond that just be prepared to walk. The DTD view rooms aren't near an elevator so its a little bit of a hike thru the corridors.
Hotheels 05-08-2008, 02:02 PM Thank you so much for the information. We have only stayed here once before and I remember it being a looong walk to the elevators, even from our concierge room. Not having ever stayed in a Downtown Disney view room, I'm not even sure what to request. Does the view vary with these rooms?
biolabetty 05-08-2008, 02:23 PM I've stayed in a DTD view several times. I prefer the ones that can be accessed through the Main Lobby as opposed to the ones closer to the Napa Rose elevator. I always prefer the 5th floor, it just seems quieter to me for some reason. I've been over the Jamba Juice store a few times and really enjoyed that view, plus I could hear the musicians perform down below. From the building closer to Napa Rose, I've been placed over the WOD store, with a view of the tram stop, not too thrilling, but you have a better shot of seeing the fireworks from there.
If you end up in the farther away building, there is a "secret" exit through the stairwell at the end of the building that leads you to the area between the WOD store and La Brea Bakery. It's wonderful going out, but you can't get back in that way. I learned about it from the person who delivered the bags to our room one time.
sierranevada 05-08-2008, 02:58 PM I actually like the ones accessed from the Napa Rose elevator because they are closer to DLR. And like everyone said, request a room on the 5th floor. Last time I had a DTD room on the 3rd floor, I noticed the noise from DTD. When I was on the 5th floor, I did not. The DTD view is my favorite at GCH!
And biolabetty is right, there is a secret exit at the end of the building from the stairwell. I have always thought that they should allow GCH guests to come back in that gate using their room key.
Hotheels 05-08-2008, 04:07 PM You guys are beyond wonderful! I will request a 5th floor room for sure. And thanks for the secret exit info...we will definately use that. :)
The only time I stayed at GC with a DTD view we were on the fourth floor and it was very noisy. But which rooms are close to the elevators? I noticed the DTD views were like everyone said are not close:crying:.
mrsdisney68 05-11-2008, 06:28 AM We are thinking of the Resort View room we love those rooms that over look GRR does anyone have experience with these. Also, do they no longer offer early entry (mm) with staying at the hotels? Thanks
adrianne 05-11-2008, 06:00 PM Another nice thing about Downtown Disney view rooms: You can see the fireworks from your balcony!

I forgot how much I loved that!! In the morning, I would sit outside with my Peet's coffee and watch DTD "wake up"! And in the evening, I would sit outside with a nice glass of wine and watch the fireworks. My son loved the fact he could lay in bed and watch the fireworks!
yellowrosedtxn 05-12-2008, 12:37 PM When we stayed at Christmas time, we were in room 3216, which was the third floor above World of Disney. I would have prefered the fourth or fifh floor but more towards the end (closer to Disneyland). IF, and that is a HUGE IF, we ever stayed at Grand California again, that is where I would request a room.
Hotheels 05-12-2008, 01:03 PM I'm so excited, we leave in 10 days! After reading everyone's comments about fireworks and watching Downtown Disney open up in the morning, I'm even more excited. So can you see the fireworks from all of the Downtown Disney view rooms? Or only the ones near World of Disney? I was thinking that I would like to be up closer to Libby Lu so we could see more of Downtown Disney, but now I'm not sure. Sierranevada, you mentioned Peet's coffee. Where did you get that? And do you remember what room you were in to see the fireworks from the bed??
yellowrosedtxn 05-12-2008, 01:17 PM I know in the room we stayed at that you could see the fireworks. I think most of the DTD views, you should be able to see the fireworks, but the higher the floor the better.

Peet's - I ALWAYS bring my own!! I really am a coffee snob and the only time I don't bring it is when I am in France or Italy! If you bring your own, remember to bring some filters because the coffee supplied in the room is prepackaged.
I don't remember the exact room number but it was in the bank of rooms accessed through the lobby so even in those rooms (furthest from DLR),you can still see the fireworks. My preference is the rooms accessed by the elevator by Napa Rose and so closer to DLR & World of Disney. In fact, the best view we ever had was a suite right over WOD! But you can see the fireworks from all DTD views.
Enjoy!
Hotheels 05-13-2008, 09:37 AM Thank you...I will bring my own coffee (and filters), I'm a coffee snob also! Sounds like any room we get will be good...I did put in a request for the 5th floor :)
