it seems like are all sorts of threads about places to eat and what you can get there but i found very few (i even did a search) for current threads that deal with food allergies, more specifically Celiac Disease.

i have celiac and have been to wdw several times and had some excellent meals. i don't know what it was like in wdw if you had food allergies several years ago (i just read a post from 2005 that seemed like it would be difficult if you had food allergies) but going to disney in 2008 with food allergies is a breeze. whenever you make ADRs the cast members helping you ask if you have any food allergies, sometimes they forget so i just make sure to mention it. when i get to the restaurant my waiter already has a note that says i need a gluten-free diet (how cool is that!). i've gone to several of disney's great restaurants and so far my favorite is Mama Melrose (that's right the Italian restaurant at Studios!). i love their pizza. most of the restaurants even have gluten-free rolls (careful, they're hot!) and gluten-free desserts! i can't tell you how thrilling it is to be able to get such a great meal and not have to worry about how it's being prepared.

if anyone else has had any good or bad experiences dealing with food allergies in wdw or has any tips please add on and maybe we can keep this thread current and up to date for anyone else out there with dietary issues.

Ill second the idea that Disney does a great job of accommodating requests when it comes to allergies.

During our second trip to WDW (and still very much rookies) Mrs. GusMan and I went to the Hoop-Dee-Doo show a few years ago. We did not really know that their dessert was a strawberry shortcake of sorts. (Yum!) She mentioned to our server that she was allergic to strawberries and they brought out a big piece of shortcake topped with a huge mound of whipped cream!

While that is a simple example of how they try to accommodate people, its always nice to be reminded that if you have any concerns, they can be addressed and in many times, addressed or arranged before arrival.

If you follow the link in my signature you can get to a thread with lots of disability information about Disney World. Post #3 there has a section about diet with lots of information and links related to dietary restrictions.

I just thought I would add that I found a great deal of options with counter service, also. I have colitis (red meat in particular offensive), IBS and lactose intolerance (I know, what can I eat, right?), but I found a lot of options. My diet is low fat, no red meat, no dairy.

Cosmic Rays in the Magic Kingdom had a variety of foods to choose from. Carts throughout all the parks offered fruit and/or healthy snacks without the processed stuff in them. At Epcot, we ate several times in various countries and each time I asked for no cheese or dairy and everyone was quite nice about it. I can think of the counter service Mexican food place at Epcot in particular (sorry, eight and half months pregnant and this name and many others lately, escapes me). I asked for a chicken taco no dairy, light on the sauce. No problem. At the Studios, there were turkey sandwiches, most of which the cheese could be removed and there were packets for the condiments, so I simply did not use them. Salads were everywhere!

The only thing I will say that I had difficulty with was the food at Cinderella's Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. This was back in 2005, however, and I think they have changed their menu since then. There was nothing on the menu I could have, so I should probably have called ahead of time so they could make me up something special.

I guess my point is that there are plenty of options, and for the most part, I found I did not even have to phone in my requests ahead of time. This was true at many of the table service restaurants as well. I ate at Tony's in the Magic Kingdom, Mama Melrose's, Hollywood and Dine and others without issues.

Hope this helps those with similar diets.

I couldn't resist posting even we are going to DL next week (not DW). My 4.5 yo son has a severe peanut allergy. Even a trace amount or if his food is cross contaminated with a PBJ can result in a life threatening reaction. It's something we deal with every day. We have preferred seats for the Fantasmic show on May 18th, which comes with a dessert box. After reading your posts, I think I'll call Disney Dining and see if they can accomodate us!!
