View Full Version : What are the nicest (but good value) hotels within walking distance?

I am considering staying either Nov. 28-30, or one of the two following weekends. This would be to celebrate my anniversary and birthday (1 day apart). I would like a niceish room, but also want to be able to do Napa Rose, etc., too. I have a PAP. Will any hotels be giving discounts then? What would be your faves? I would, of course, LOVE to do GCH, but I don't think I can stomach the 900 bucks for the cheapest room, for 2 nights.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Define walking distance and niceish?

You mention GCH. Do you want a hotel hotel like the Hilton or Marriott or Hyatt? They're not as expensive as the GCH but they're not cheap and not walking distance.

Do you mean of the Harbor motels? I think that the Hojos has some nice rooms. How much of a discount are you looking for? The first thing I do is e-mail my AAA agent. She can usually get me a good deal through a third party.

Yep, that's exactly what I meant. I wasn't sure if there was a hotel of that level close enough.

I know that the HoJo's is popular on this board, but dh would kill me if I tried to do the anniversary there. Thanks for the quick answer!

Maybe we'll just have to save our pennies a little longer. I assume that there's no real way to get a cheaper deal on any of the Disney hotels at that time of year, right?

It depends on what your definition of walking distance is.

I won't pay to stay on-property because my experiences with the on-property hotels have so consistently fallen below my expectations that it's not worth the anxiety and effort to risk it anymore. I realize that I could call downstairs when I find dried oatmeal on my bedspread, and request a new bedspread - but I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to complain to get decent service and I shouldn't have to risk the hotel overbooking their services to hope I can get the room I want.

I love the Marriott. I think that the Marriott is close enough to walk. But I enjoy a good walk. It's not close enough to walk back to in the middle of the day, IMO. Many people like the Sheraton that's behind TDA, but you'd probably want to use a shuttle. Newil loves that hotel.

Last August DH and I stayed at the Anaheim Sheraton. I did not want a motel and I wanted the option of room service and some ammenities, should I need them (did not). I really liked this hotel. We did walk to the park a couple of mornings - it is about a mile - but there was a convenient and free shuttle too. I booked pretty far in advance and got a rate that was about $90/night. I would recommend at least looking into it.

The Sheraton Park is a very nice hotel. Great views of the park on one side and a balcony. Great pool area, although in Nov you might not care about that. We used the shuttle (ART) each day. Very convienent. This year I got a great military rate last year we used a Disney Travel Co. package. I am really picky about where I stay, and I really liked it. Hojo's is a nice place but not in the same catagory.

Thanks! That sounds like it might work. :) I will look into that.

I stayed this year at the Disneyland Hotel, the Candy Cane Inn, and the Hyatt.

They were all good choices in different price ranges and for various reasons although the Disneyland choice required me to be the most flexible in terms of my service expectations.

If you're looking for a "4 star" hotel, I really liked the Hyatt and the service we got there. It is not walking distance but they have their own direct shuttle that goes every half hour.

There is a recent thread devoted to the Hyatt; you can find it here: http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=99864&highlight=hyatt

Enjoy your trip!

I love the Anaheim Hilton by the Convention Center. I also think the Residence Inn on Clementine offers a good value. Some will say these are not walking distance but I find the walk to be reasonable.

I have never stayed there but I would consider the Candy Cane for an anniversary. It normally would not work for us because we have too large a party. Their deluxe rooms sound very nice though and it is an easy walk. I think they offer Triple AAA rates of around $99.

One year our budget was so tight we almost stayed home for our anniversary as usual. Getaway Today was able to get us a super cheap rate like $20 a night at the Travelodge. We stayed there and walked. It was real basic accomadations but we had a wonderful time. It was our first time away for our anniversary in ten years.

They may not look nice, but The Best Western Anaheim Inn and Ramada Inn Maingate are really roomy and super compfy. The showers are always hot and stay hot!! And the beds are super comfy. Not your typical hotel/motel beds. And everytime we stay at both, GREAT CUTOMER SERVICE!!! Prices are usually really resonable, we have never paid over 135 a night at either. We usually go to DL 4 times a year and we just switch between the two. Both are across the street. Great locations for walking distance, like 5 min. to Main Gate.

I would avoid the Ramada Inn Maingate- we stayed in February and had bugs not sure what kind but crawling white things on the floor, broken microwave and the shower kept backing up the most disgusting things. Not to mention they would not move us and our keys stopped working one night. They offered us a free room for an upcoming trip for our inconvience but I will never take them up on it! Not to mention paper thin windows.
We are going to try Hojo's next trip and I can't wait!
