View Full Version : All hotels completely booked?
MiaTurner 04-30-2008, 11:59 AM Sorry if this is supposed to be somewhere else or has already been discussed... I ran a search and couldn't find it.
What is going on in Anaheim this weekend? I started looking for hotels for my cheer squad about two months ago and they had already been booked for this weekend. At first I assumed it was because of NCA's Nationals, but our coach talked to the other teams and apparently there won't be that many of us stopping by at Disneyland.
It's supposed to off-season too, isn't it? Like, a low attendance time? Long story short, we booked the hotel just fine and we're still going, but is there something big going on at Disneyland, or just in the area?
Walt'sbirthdaygirl 04-30-2008, 01:20 PM What is NCA?
The hotels were hard to come by if you needed the full weekend, almost everywhere we checked when we were booking a month ago was booked Friday night, but available saturday and sunday.
I checked the convention center website, the only convention is a dental convention.
MiaTurner 04-30-2008, 01:27 PM It's short for National Cheerleader's Association :) They're not hosting nationals at Disneyland though; it's just a treat for our team.
We were trying book Thursday through Saturday. All totally booked; we couldn't figure out why! We checked the convention center too and didn't see anything.
Walt'sbirthdaygirl 04-30-2008, 02:19 PM What an awesome treat!!!
We couldnt figure it out either, I just figured that whatever convention is there through friday had the hotels booked solid. We managed to get the Tropicana for Fri and Saturday nights, all of my other choices were sold out.
Fingers crossed for beautiful weather and "modest" crowds!!!!!
adriennek 04-30-2008, 02:25 PM According to this website (http://www.anaheimoc.org/conventioncalendar/index.asp), (I googled "Anaheim Convention Calendar,) there's a 30,000 person Dental Convention at the Anaheim Convention Center from 4/28 to 5/6.
I go to a 20-25K conference at the Convention Center every year and the hotels book up for it MONTHS in advance. The dentists most likely won't affect crowds at DLR, but a 30K conference will definitely affect hotel availability. Even though it says that "only" 9000 attendees are from out of town - many locals get rooms for conferences. The conference I attend is local and many of us get rooms anyway. I went to a "mostly locals" conference at the Hyatt in January and most of the "locals" I know, including myself, booked a room for that as well.

That type of convention can have high points, hotels booked, keeping people away we've been lucky a couple of times. Hotels booked, we were convinced the parks would be packed beyond belief and they really werent. Of course there are always the children, spouses etc that might tag along, which could add to the crowds.
Heck its Disneyland, even with a crowd its the best place on earth to be!!!!

Seriously, I don't think that affects attendance nearly as much as people think it will. We went with Doc to a conference last November. There was a free event for everyone with special activities for kids. The conference was pretty big and there were fewer than 20 kids at the free event.
It's still the school year for most of the country and it's an event with 2/3 of the participates living locally. I would not expect families to impact DLR attendance.

You have significantly brightened my day!! Realizing that weekends are always a bit busier, its always encouraging that we might be walking into a normal weekend. We used to be mid week folk, and then the kids got older, so we have learned to adjust somewhat to the weekend crowds. One of the little girls who willl be going with us was at the park on a weekend during spring break and she will be so happy that it might not be crazy busy!!!
TTFN92 04-30-2008, 06:12 PM We'll be there Sun. and Mon. so hopefully it will be good those days, especially Mon. I'm looking forward to an empty park. Probably won't be with my luck though.
Sarah B in SD 04-30-2008, 06:55 PM We'll be there this weekend too, also staying at the Tropicana too my favorite off-site accommodations!
genericeric 04-30-2008, 10:03 PM weve been here since monday and have been able to walk onto almost anything we want, no crowds, no waiting. My Daughter won a dream today for reserved seats at billy hill, was awesome!!

You'll know who we are two harried young end of middle aged women with four young children in their pirate ears trying to keep control of some very excited little ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The husbands bailed out on the trip so its just the girls and the tots!
Sarah B in SD 05-01-2008, 12:59 PM Hubbie and I are going up with 2-day Park Hoppers sans children...so we will be the ones smiling at you sympathetically and knowingly, because we've done those trips too!
Have a great time!

Us too. Can't wait :D!

Walt'sbirthdaygirl 05-01-2008, 07:19 PM oh well, it will still be fun, heading up tomorrow. Making a side trip to Knotts on Saturday and then a morning at DL on Sunday.
