View Full Version : Where do you love to shop at DLR?
Aurora2008 04-29-2008, 11:02 PM Hi all,
I am shopping deprived at DLR (too bad that doesn't happen to me everywhere!)! Always in too much of a hurry to cram in all the rides and yummy food and I usually end up at the Emporium on the way out. It doesn't thrill me a whole lot. I guess I'm looking for some insider type books and maybe some smashed penny collector books, and ???
Where are your favorite places to shop? What great finds have you made there?
DianeM 04-29-2008, 11:56 PM For insider books look at the emporium, at the far end by the register, or at the collectibles store on Main Street (about the 3rd the store on the right side as you're going in) they have a section of books at the front - right by the register. Also, there are quite a few books at DCA in the art shop (on the backlot main street, on the right, they sell prints of Disney artwork and collectibles). The books are at the back. Finally, check amazon. They have Disney books.

stan4d_steph 04-30-2008, 04:42 AM ...or at the collectibles store on Main Street (about the 3rd the store on the right side as you're going in) they have a section of books at the front - right by the register. Yes, that's Disneyana. It's a great shop for all kinds of collectibles and limited edition merchandise. You should definitely go there Aurora2008.
I try and look in the shops that don't get a lot of traffic.
For instance, I saw some interesting things in a shop in DCA right around where the midway games are. The place was practically empty and I saw things in there that I hadn't seen elsewhere. I found a great Jack Skellington purse in the exit shop for Tower of Terror.
When my kids were really little, I liked to shop for them in the Pooh Corner shop. The shops in NOS are fun to look in, but are very crowded. I haven't looked in the Joke Store in ToonTown lately, but they used to have some fun things too.
TTFN92 04-30-2008, 08:19 AM My favorite store is the Emporium. I just love it in there. I guess that is more for regular souveniers. But if I am looking for pins I prefer one of the pin shops like Little Green Men, the one in Frontierland, or PT Flea in DCA. If we are buying hats we go to the Mad Hatter so we can get names on them. I buy jewelry at the jewelry store that is connected to the Emporium. I guess I like to go to specific stores and those are my favorites for those things. Oh, and I love going into the shop behind the Sillouhette Shop that has the collectibles and ornaments. That is one of my favorites (wish I knew the name), but I can't spend much time looking with my 4 boys. They get bored too quickly. Plus I'm scared they are going to break something ;). Can't wait to go shopping in a few days!

Ok, I'm a dork, just to establish that NOW.
I love fun little things. I like keychains because you can use them as zipper pulls on backpacks, diaper bags, hang them from lanyards, etc.
This spring I found my favorite fun little trinket while waiting for people to come out of Space Mountain! They were selling them at the little photo counter there, but I'm told they also have them in the store at the exit of Buzz Lightyear. It's a small astro-blaster on a keychain for six bucks!
OMG. So cute. We got one for every person in the family. My kids LOVE them. They're not, imo, nearly as obnoxious as the bigger toy astro-blasters and they were a price point that we could get them for everyone. Mine even came in handy at MouseAdventure. (GALACTIC ALLIANCE. It's a BUZZ thing. ;))
The other one I love love love, and I have to find that bag and mail someone a check now that I think about it, are the little mickey heads that look like antenna balls but are smaller. They're hanging around the cash registers. they come on little chains. Again, they'll make GREAT zipper pulls or just little hanging things where you need a hanging thing, LOL. I love subtle, simple trinkets, can you tell?
ETA: So my tip is - keep your eyes open around kiosks and cash registers. Lots of times merchandise is in several places - the same item is often sold in more than one location.

Bytebear 04-30-2008, 10:57 AM I like the shops at New Orlean's Square. I also like Pieces of Eight, and I like the store in Adventureland with the rubber snakes! But I always have to go to Disneyanna and usually I go to the Watch shop (I am looking for a pocket watch which they don't seem to sell anymore. I am still kicking myself for not buying the 50th commemorative one).
iamtheevilqueen 04-30-2008, 11:07 AM I LOVE the toy/hat/charm store in Toon Town. I like all that little stuff...key rings, small toys, charms...you know, choking hazards! ;)
dawnid 04-30-2008, 12:36 PM I love Disneyana, The Music Shop & New Century Timepieces all on Main St.
dkthepainter 04-30-2008, 02:03 PM I love(and spend a good deal of time in, when I'm there) all of the main street shops. I especially love when certain stores switch to holiday merchandise, however have been a little confused since they moved the year-round holiday shop on me. Where is it now? I heard it had moved to Fantasyland but don't get to that neck-of-the-woods very often(I tend to go in the general direction of Adventureland!). Help!
Drince88 04-30-2008, 03:37 PM I FINALLY got to go in the Sparkly shop when it was open (Jewelry store in NOS). Some very pretty pretties there!
kathynova 04-30-2008, 03:50 PM I just love the Crystal Shop! They have some of the most unique disney jewelry, and although some items are totally out of my budget, I will often treat myself to a nice pair of earrings. Otherwise I add an engraved shot glass or mug to my collection. It's a "can't miss" stop for me during every trip.

I read on some thread here I believe that someone bought a 50th commemorative watch at the outlet store, for a deeply discounted price. Don't know if it was a pocket watch, but it would definitely be worth a call to them.
Good luck!
Matterhorn Yodeler 04-30-2008, 05:22 PM As to your "penny smasher" idea, I've seen albums available at Little Green Men for $6, I believe. It opens up and has clear plastic slots to hold all of your pennies.
I believe City Hall can provide you with the locations of the many machines throughout DLR, but it may be more fun to just "discover" them, and may be a distraction for the kids while you are shopping.
Enjoy!
Sarah B in SD 04-30-2008, 05:25 PM I'm the one that got the watch for 29.99, marked down from $125, at the outlet in Anaheim, they had a wide selection of watches, and I know I have seen pocket watches there before...
DisneyJenn 04-30-2008, 07:56 PM I love Off the Page in DCA. I always make great finds and I just love the stuff they have in there.
However, I am one that stops in every single store, every trip.
I also have found great things at the shop in Frontierland and it's not as crowded as the Emporium.
hayjennn 04-30-2008, 08:18 PM Ok this is going to sound silly but I love going into all of the shops. The trouble is getting my family to let me. Whenever we are leaving DL instead of walking down mainstreet we walk through the stores of main street. I manage this by telling the family "it's less crowded in the stores than on the street." End the evening it is true most of the time. If there is a store I manage to get into it. I find different things at different stores. I don't think I have a single favorite. I love them all equally.
I am sure this didn't help the orginal poster. Sorry!

Hey Bytebear, there you go! Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for and at a discount too. Here's a link for a 10% off coupon to the outlet store:

Malcon10t 04-30-2008, 09:40 PM It's a small astro-blaster on a keychain for six bucks! I have a similar find from Dec. A 5 in light saber on a key chain that lights up and flashes!!!!
dopey076 04-30-2008, 10:34 PM I have to say my most favorite store is the Disneyana Store. I not only enjoy shopping there but I always have to at least walk through the store and check out the latest merchandise. :D

That's ok! I love hearing about all the stores and the great finds people have made. Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!
We are going for our 10 year anniversary, so I'm sure I can get some good mementos this time. Plus, we are going sans kiddos, so I'll have more time to browse. Jewelry, anyone?!
