Just curious to see if there's any interest. I'm putting together some profiles and wanted to see if there was any interest from folks here if I posted them.

And yes, I know there are lots of things to do on a cruise besides listening to radio, but I figure I'll be spending quite a bit of time in my room playing 'nap patrol' for my kids and am just getting ready...

I would be interested. I took my Yaesu VX-5 HT with me on the last Panama trip, and it was great being able to listen in to the pilots and Canal operations.

Ok, just to get you and others started, here is a list of Marine VHF frequencies:
http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Marine_VHF_Channels

I'm not familiar with Marine radio operations, so not sure which are more likely to be used than others. I won't worry about this, since my radio has these frequency assignments built in.

Here is a list of UHF frequencies reported used on the Magic. Search for 'Disney':
http://home.earthlink.net/~ecps91/frequencies.htm

If you have a trunking capable radio, you can listen to the TRS:

I thinking about taking my Radio Shack special with us on the Westbound Repo.

When flying, do you pack it in your luggage or in your carry on? I'm thinking luggage so I don't risk it being confiscated by TSA. (If I lose it, I'd rather have it stolen and file a complaint with the airline.)

Any thoughts?

Take it in your carry on. It isn't a restricted item, and TSA has no grounds for taking it. When I take radios with me, I always put them in carry on.

...and make sure you have fresh batteries in it, just in case they ask you to turn it on.

Wow, off the top of your head, that's not bad. :D

Here is where I think you got your data:
http://home.cfl.rr.com/scanner/cruise.htm

Ok, just ribbing you for not providing a source. I think I have seen that list before. Here is a better source for the Disney Magic TRS. As you can tell from the channel names, this is to essentially connect the 'hotel/fun' side of the boat together.

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=2715

The 45x/46x MHz frequencies are missing CTCSS tones. Not as important when you're alone out at sea, but you might pick up transmissions from neighboring boats in port or someone nearby in a sea lane.

You're VX-5 should allow you to program tones. You can check out this page:
http://home.earthlink.net/~ecps91/frequencies.htm

Search for Disney, and you can get tones for one of the channels.

If you're interested in trying to find some new activity, go cruise this thread here:
http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103906

Check out post #2, for information about 25kHz and newer 12.5kHz and 6.25kHz channels.

Here's what I found on my last trip on the Magic. I took the list that Tony found and tried listening. If there is a value for the tone that means I found something. If it is still 'Search', it means I didn't hear anything.

The first frequency of the pair is the repeater out, the second one is the repeater input. What is strange about the list below is that the tones don't match for input and output. It is not common, but not unheard of. On my next trip, I'm going to make sure these tones are correct.

If someone here wants to verify them, I'd appreciate an update.

Label Frequency Tone
1/Ops 457.5250 CTCSS 186.2Hz
1/Ops/1 467.7500 CTCSS 123.0Hz
2/(Unknown) 457.5500 Search
2/(Unknown)/1 467.7750 Search
3/Sec/Bridge 457.5750 CTCSS 179.9Hz
3/Sec/Bridge/1 467.8000 CTCSS 94.8Hz
4/(Unknown) 457.6000 CTCSS 229.1Hz
4/(Unknown)/1 467.8250 Search
